Jul 13, 2013 - Universal studios

All of us except Marita headed off to Universal studios after an early morning dip in the roof top pool. We all arrived full of energy and expecting to get a bit wet! We headed straight down to the lower lot and moved quickly through the rides getting pretty much soaked on the Jurrasic park ride. They were all fun, some more than others but the general thoughts were great all round. We did the tour of the studios, had some lunch and then did all of the shows. On the tour there was a 360 degree 3D ride of King Kong. It was great!! We...

Jul 12, 2013 - Travel from San Diego to LA

Our last morning in San Diego! We hired a car and drove from our hotel through the beach side suburbs of the OC and ended up having lunch at Laguna Beach. It is amazing too see children about 9 or 10 paying for their friends frozen yogurts with their own credit card! Yep I am serious. Marita tells us this is some of the most expense pave real estate in the world. It is certainly beautiful but no better than anything we have in Australia! We drove on to Los Angeles and checked into our hotel. sonia and Nigel returned the hire cars and we all...

Evans USA 2013

Oct 6, 2012 - Laguna Beach, CA

Day thirty six: Destination-Treasure Island Park We cheered the Badgers on to victory this afternoon and then decided to head to Treasure Island Park in Laguna Beach. We were going to go out on Soren's boat, but Soren didn't think it was worth it since we waited so long. The park was gorgeous. The flowers, rock formations, and the tide pools were extremely cool. We played with the crabs, slugs, sea anemones, and other things for quite some time. Then we watched the sunset over the ocean on the beach. The clouds made it one of the most...

Jan 4, 2012 - Monday, Jan. 2, 2012

Monday, January 2, 2012 I was up and ready to go by 9:15 and it is another beautiful day outside. I don’t know how people put up without having actual seasons, but having the same weather day after day, with an occasional rainstorm. Don’t get me wrong, I am enjoying the weather, but just can’t believe it is winter. I am planning on going to the Apple Store to purchase the operating system updates I need, then I’ll drive to Sharry’s and install them. That will probably take all day, and then I’ll say my goodbyes, for now, as I will leave...

Jan 2, 2012 - Saturday, New Years Eve

Saturday, December 31, 2011 - Last Day of 2011 Don’t hold your breath for any tales of wild California New Years parties, as I haven’t “done” New Years in many, many years, usually being in bed before the clock struck midnight. I spent the entire morning writing the updates to the blog and then Sharry and I went out for lunch and to let Zack have some dog park time. Sharry met us at RJ’s, a restaurant by the harbor that allows dogs on the outside eating area. We had a very good lunch and then Zack and I went to the local dog park while...

Jan 2, 2012 - Sunday, New Years Day

Sunday, January 1, 2012 - A New Year Begins This is the first time I’ve needed to write 2012 and it seems stranger than in past years. I don’t know why, but for some reason it was awkward to type. I am hopeful that this year will bring some sense back to Washington DC, and return America to its rightful status in the world. I’m not really worried that the end of the Mayan calendar has any fact in ending the world, but if it does, so be it. I feel that the earth is a self-healing planet that can take care of itself, and if getting rid of...

Oct 10, 2010 - Laguna Beach/Montage Resort

10/9. When I thought I'd seen it all, I discovered Laguna Beach and the very posh Montage Resort located right on the coast. The sites were so intense, pictures could never do it justice. Huntington may still be my favorite (a great place to swim and surf), but could never hold a candle to the stunning sites and structures located at Laguna Beach.

California Trip 2010

Feb 14, 2010 - Valentine's Day at the Beach

The weather has become fantastic. I don't want to emphasize it too much as most of the country is still dealing with winter. For our Valentine's Day celebration we went first to Saddleback Church pastored by Rick Warren. I appreciate his books and the resources that his church has provided to other churches like Calvary where I was the pastor. The church was amazing. There had to be at least 2000 people at the 11:15 a.m. service and it was only one of 7 services at the main campus. They hold services at many other locations in the area now...

Dec 28, 2009 - Laguna Beach

The time with Tom and Jerry in Laguna Beach was great fun. Lots of good food, friends, laughs, and walks into the neighborhood. Since their home is on top of the hill all walks go up and down, as do the streets. Actually driving the streets is an exercise in courage...will the other car stop or not, with a car parked on both sides of the street do we fit, which gear is required for this hill?? In the evening we watched stunning sunsets from the back deck and then listened for the coyotes as they came up from the canyon bottom, yapping and...

Where is Tortuga?

Dec 21, 2009 - Laguna Beach

After driving through the canyons and the very diverse countryside of Southern California, we arrived at Tom and Jerry's home in Laguna Beach. Very pretty view sitting up high, looking across the hillside to the ocean. We haven't taken the walk down, but it is quite long and winding and then end up at the Pacific Coastal Highway. We are planning to hang out here for the holidays. So fun to be with Tom, Helen's nephew, and Jerry.

May 10, 2009 - Mother's Day and My Departure

Sunday, May 10, 2009 - Happy Mother’s Day to you Mothers. It is foggy this morning and I haven’t been able to see any of the Channel Islands from the deck. I am enjoying the cooler weather, as it seems like I have had perpetual summer since getting to the southwestern states. This has been my year without winter, and I miss it. Gregg had made reservations for a Mother’s Day brunch at 10 O’clock, so we headed to their hotel, which is where the restaurant is on the golf course. We had a delightful brunch and visit, and because Gregg and...

May 9, 2009 - My Nephew's Garden Wedding

Saturday, May 9, 2009 - Wedding Day Today is also the day I have to move the motor home as my reservation was only until today and someone else has this spot starting at 11 AM. This morning is overcast again, but that’s probably for the best as the wedding is in Scott’s back yard and we don’t need the hot direct sun on everyone. I had hooked the Jeep up last night and put the things inside in order for travel, so didn’t have a lot to do before driving to Laguna Beach. I had my morning coffee and checked my emails, took Zack out for a...
