Nov 22, 2013 - Kingsburg CA near Sequoia and Kings Canyon Nat'l Parks

11/22 Joe's magic tree is looking pretty good. We pull out of Greeley Hill about 0930 this AM. A very intresting drive. We start off with wooded steep, narrow winding roads. Then more steep and winding but at least a bit wider. Then a short period of rolling grasslands and finally back into the flat farms lands of central CA. Grapes, nut trees, fruit and other food crops. We pull into the camp ground in Kingsburg, I'm glad we get here early they only have two empty spaces and the other one fills shortly after we get here. Sequoia...

Jul 18, 2012 - OTRA - CA - Kingsburg

OTRA –Kingsburg CA (7/18/12) Since we didn’t have far to drive today, we just sort of took it easy and finally got on the road by 12:15. Our route took us past part of the mountain that was burned by the forest fire we saw yesterday. It was so sad…all the Joshua trees burnt, the ground full of ash, just so devastated looking. The fire crews were there, cleaning up the still smoldering ground. According to the newspapers, over 1700 acres burned but, although numerous houses were threatened, none were lost. That’s good. Other than that, the...

Kingsburg, CA. 51 deg. overcast, no wind. Forecast = Clear. High of 72F. Winds from the South at 5 to 10 mph shifting to the NNW in the afternoon. Yesterday morning, Jim and Linda decided that it would be a good idea to go into town and buy some groceries, so about 10:30 they left here and headed out. They found a Save Mart Supermarket and by about 12:30, they were back here putting the groceries away. : ) After the groceries were put away, both Jim and Linda took naps before starting to get me ready to travel. Jim went out and checked my...

I really didn't have too much to worry about though because the water in the park, at that point, was starting to drain...

Apr 10, 2012 - Not Far To Go, A Drink Of #2, and A Site With A View

Kingsburg, CA. 46 deg. clear, no wind. Forecast = Mostly cloudy in the morning, then overcast with rain showers. High of 77F. Winds from the South at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 60%. I knew we didn't have far to go yesterday, so I wasn't surprised that we didn't leave the Bakersfield Palms RV Park until 10:15. From the park, we headed to a Shell Truck Stop along Rt. 58, that Jim and Linda had found, to get me a drink of #2 diesel fuel. It had been awhile since I had a drink, so I was pretty thirsty, and at $4:13 per gallon, my bill was...

Dec 19, 2011 - Just a place to park

The first thing I wanted to do this morning was to fill up our empty propane tank. We've only used one 30 lb. tank since taking ownership last September. I think that's pretty good. We made sure we used electricity most of the time. Our refrigerator uses both electric and gas. It switches to gas automatically when there is no electricity. We are still not sure whether we should drive with the gas on so the fridge keeps cooling. It wouldn't be pretty if we got into an accident and the RV went up in flames. I think from now on we will turn...

Mar 19, 2008 - Kingsburg, California (little Sweden)

Yesterday, we drove from Pyramid Lake to Kingsburg through the rest of the Tejon and Grapevine Mountain Passes. It was very interesting; steep and scenic. There was a little snow on the mountaintops as well. Once we were out of the mountains, though, it got nice and warm as we entered the San Joaquin Valley. The valley is a huge, very flat area where thousands of acres of grapes, vegetables, nuts and fruits are grown and shipped all over the world. We stopped at the new, huge, Camping World store in Bakersfield at noon. They had some nice...
