Jun 20, 2014 - Jackson, California

Hi! Since our last posting we spent 2 nights in Canyonville, OR at 7 Feather's RV Park and Casino. The RV park is one of the finest with lush landscaping and large, well spaced sites. We three visited Millsite Mercantile in nearby Myrtle Creek (population 3,500 2.51 sq mi), one of our favorite antique stores. I found a fossilized sponge for $5, a flying fish salt and pepper set $2.80 and a baggie of beach glass for $3. The beach glass may not be authentic sea glass but it's pretty. We walked Bear through Myrtle Creek's community park....

Mar 6, 2013 - Jackson, CA

Today we made a 5 hour 300 mile run from Bakersfield, CA to Jackson, CA and the Jackson Rancheria Casino Resort arriving a little after 1PM. We've stayed here before for the Wine Crush (grape harvest for the wineries in the area) in October and a great place. Plan is to keep an eye on the weather going over I-80 and Donner summit on the way home to Reno. Right now it looks like Saturday or Sunday should work. More later....

Jun 11, 2012 - Reads Like A Travel Brochure...

California’s gold country encompasses some of the most bucolic and historic towns in the state. Gold country follows the Sierra Nevada Mountain foothills from Tahoe - south to Yosemite National Park. California Highway 49 – properly named for the 1849 California gold rush – weaves its’ way through the rural landscape and the quaint mining towns rich with California history. The gold has long since been mined from this area and a new “liquid gold” crop has evolved in the form of vineyards. California’s wine fever has taken hold here and...

Jun 3, 2012 - Jackson Rancheria Casino

Today we are heading to Jackson, CA and our Alpenlite Rally. We passed some orchards of tall trees and I was guessing if they were nut trees. Then we saw the Blue Diamond Almond plant and that answered my question. There were winery signs (Gnarly) and lots of grape vines and old towns. The rolling hills were golden with few trees now as we entered the California Gold Country of the Sierra Nevada foothills. We came up behind another Alpenlite and followed it to Jackson Rancheria and the RV park for the Casino. The grounds are lovely, there...

Oct 7, 2011 - A visit with family near Sacramento

We departed Red Bluff on Saturday the 29th to travel to our next stop just southeast of Sacramento for a visit with friends and family in the area. The drive was uneventful, except for a mildly frightening segment through Sacramento - the eight-lane roadway was crowded with a lot of drivers who were apparently late for wherever they were headed. Yikes! But, we made it through intact and then enjoyed a 40 mile drive on two-lane country roads to our new home base, the Jackson Rancheria RV Resort. The park is located in the lower foothills...

May 1, 2010 - On the Road Again

On the road again heading for our Alaskan adventure!!!! We left Lake Havasu on the 24Th of April to meet up with Dave & Carolyn, and Bob & Diana in nearby Needles, CA. From Needles we carravanned to Jackson, to attend a Newmar motor home rally, and to meet up with Ron & Carmen, another of the five couples going on our Alaskan adventure. Jackson is an early California mining area in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, close to Sutters Creek, Sutters Mill, Angels Camp and many other neat little towns from the gold rush era. While here we visited...

Apr 26, 2010 - Region 1 Rally - Beautiful Jackson, California

After leaving St. George, Utah, Dave started recovering from the flu, however, his gift was received by Carolyn. How sick were we?? On a very cool, rainy day we moved down to Needles, California and tried to recover before our friends the Starrs and Hayes arrived. We then travelled through California to Jackson, which is in the foothills west of Lake Tahoe and can we say how beautiful. Green, rolling, wineries, history. We were in jackson 6 nights and enjoyed all. We did have 2 days of rain and can I say it did pour. Our Rally included a...

Apr 10, 2010 - Looking for Gold, Finding More Flowers

Leaving Vacaville and heading to Gold Country was like leaving the city and heading to the country. While Vacaville is really part of the Napa Valley it is still a commuting suburb for both San Francisco and Sacramento. Gold Country is the foothills of the Sierra Mountains and much more rural and rustic. We stayed at an RV Park which is associated with an Indian Casino. The RV Park is only 3 years old and rated 3rd best in the country. It was just beautiful, set on a plateau with clean, spacious sites, a dog walk & park, free laundry,...
