Nov 11, 2011 - Brannon Island

Thursday: Our destination this trip is the Sacramento River delta where we hope to visit wildlife refuges near Lodi, and see the Sandhill cranes. We are watching our grandkids Ryleigh and Sam this week while their parents are on a business trip to Germany, so they are going with us. Just past noon we herded the grandkids into the RV and after a stop at the grocery store we got on the road for the delta and our campground on Brannon Island. We headed southeast to Highway 101, then south to Lakeville Highway and east through Napa County to...

Oct 25, 2011 - Day #48,10-25-11

Day #48, 10-25-11 We rose at about 7:15 this morning fearing the drive back out from the RV Park. Despite the difficult entrance at the end of a very long day yesterday, we saw probably 12-15 fawns, ducks and geese in the park upon arrival. We appeared to be a curiosity to the deer. Back to our morning evacuation from the park. I programmed Healdsburg into the GPS as our first destination. To my amazement, our current location was very close to the town of Cloverdale. We were soon on the 101 headed south. The GPS had taken us on the most...

Dec 13, 2010 - Isleton, California, and San Francisco

We had every intention of leaving Elma on December 5, but once again, fate stepped into our plans. On December 4, Jon took a tumble behind our motorhome, grabbed the ladder on the back of the motorhome to catch himself, and dislocated his left shoulder. Contrary to what you might have seen in Mel Gibson movies, reseating a dislocated shoulder isn’t as easy as slamming it against a pole! It took heavy doses of muscle relaxants, pain killers, and sedatives in the emergency room, then the strength of five people to put him back together....

May 12, 2010 - Leaving Reno heading to Lake Tahoe CA

Woke to a beautiful day. Sunny and some what warm. Needed only a light jacket. We were thinking of maybe staying another night but changed our minds. Took a few pictures of the one area of the Hotel. Then we left and headed towards Lake Tahoe. It was a very nice day to travel. Ran into a little construction, was held up for about 5 mins, not to bad. Again as we head to the Sierra Mts., we ran into some snow again. When we got to Lake Tahoe, it was a little of a let down. You either want to be here during the real winter or summer. This in...

May 11, 2010 - Trip to Reno NV

Well when we woke it was a beautiful day a little cool, but we packed our bags and headed for Reno NV. It was a good day traveling. As we got closer to the Sierra Mts. we noticed a little snow. As we drove on the scenery changed from green, a little snow then a lot of snow. They have big tractors with plows on them to push the snow off the road. It was the most beautiful scenery that we saw since we left home. The new fallen snow that glisten when the sun would shine down on it. It was just breath taking. I am glad that we waited for a day....

May 7, 2010 - SF & Napa Valley

Well after taking the Alcatraz tour, it was late so we spent our final nite at the Travel lodge again . We woke up to the reality that we still had to deal with the parking ticket so off we went to pay the fine. That being done it was time to GET OUT OF TOWN !!! So the Traveling Duo bid farewell> Like the song goes, I Left My Heart In San Francisco, and my pocket book TOO!!! Next we decided to travel 100 miles north to Napa Valley Wineries. That was a BIG disappointment. When we got to the wineries for tasting we found out that we had to...

May 6, 2010 - Alcatraz Part 2

We made the boat in time and got something to eat on the boat. We were able to park right at the Alcatraz lot. Which makes me a little happier knowing that our car will be there when we get back. Found out that there is a steep incline to get up to the prison and lucky for me they have a tram that will take the ones that can't make the climb. It was a beautiful ride over on the boat and the waters around Alcatraz are pretty rough and it would seem like it would be impossible to swim over to the main land. We got off and drove up to the top...

May 6, 2010 - Day 3 of tour of SF part 1

We caught the tour bus downtown Union Square. Rick decided to park downtown figured it would of been easier. We hopped on the bus and took the tour to Presidio Park also know as the Golden Gate Bridge Park. It was very pretty even though we aren't in summer yet. We had the same tour guide as we did on the night tour and he was very interesting. We came back to Union Sq, and decided to hop on the cable car and head back down to the Fisherman Wharf on the cable car. When we got down there we walked around again and had a snack. Then we walked...

May 5, 2010 - Day 2 of Our Tour SF

Well all good plans seem to go wrong. Mick woke to being dizzy. Guess it has to do with allergies. We tried to leave camp and had to go back. She took some meds for it and slept. Got up around 2PM and felt better. So we drove into SF to do the evening tour again. It was very cold tonight but we were ready for it. Had a good time got a room for tonight and tomorrow will leave on Friday morning. Got some nice picture of downtown at night. Hope you are enjoying the pictures not trying to send to many. Especially repeats.

May 4, 2010 - Day 1 our Tour of SF

Well we drove in and it really wasn't that bad. Had only 2 really slow downs and they didn't last that long. Went through a tunnel that brought us out to traffic jam but once we got in the right lane we head for the SF Bay bridge. It really wasn't a bad drive. Once we got into town we headed for the Fisherman's Wharf where the tour bus was leaving from. It is a very cool morning but not to bad. We boarded the bus and headed for downtown. It is like being in New York City only with a whole bunch of hills. We saw the trolley cars, cable cars...
