Mar 16, 2017 - Mid December 2016 to Mid March 2017

Hello Everyone Time slips by so quickly, here it is Mid- March and I realized I have not updated the blog since mid- December. We arrived back in Indio in early January to cooler than normal temps but settled into our usual routines: 1 Water volleyball has gone from 3 days a week to 6 days a week and has become very popular. We have 12-18 players each day. 2 Vic is still calling Card Bingo on Sunday evenings. 3 Sandy is still working on the Communication Committee. 4 Cards and games with friends several days a week. 5 Saturday night at...

Feb 28, 2017 - February lots of rain

February started out a little rough. As we were finishing our medical appointments, getting ready to go up to Silent Valley in the mountains, our refrigerator gave out. We made a trip to our friend Robert’s house to store some produce, meats and cheese, eggs etc. in his refrigerator. And then over to my sister’s house to store our frozen foods in her freezer and borrowed her cooler to keep a few food items until we could get it fixed. Our RV repairman was booked up so we had to wait for an opening, then took the coach over to his facility....

Feb 22, 2017 - Slab City Up Close-or-Financing Our Travels

Friday 2/17 I woke up thinking about how I could see more of Slab City. I could just take the bike off the rack and ride it around and get a good up close look at things. The only problem with that is that it would be harder to take pictures. I finally decided that I would ride the bike, which was easier to access than unhooking the pickup. If I saw something that I needed the pickup for I would just have to switch to it. So, that’s what I did. Slab City is probably about one square mile and I think I put about six miles on the bike riding...

Oct 3, 2016 - Desert Trip Concert!!!

Wow, where to start. Thanks Jon for talking us into this. The concert was amazing. Bob Dylan, Rolling Stones, Neil Young, Paul McCartney, The Who and Roger Waters. It was held in Indio/Cochella at the polo grounds. It was billed as Desert Trip but some called it Oldchella. Ha, there were lots of young folks there to hear the great music. Young folks like Jon, Karen, Chris, me, Don and Gail. Whoo Hoo party time! :)

A Lifetime's Dream

Mar 31, 2016 - A Busy March

We have had a very busy March and it was "The Best". - I spent many afternoons at the Pool as a way of cooling off. I really don't swim but just splash around a little and soak it all in. Then off to the hot tub and then back to the pool. I'm sure you get the idea. - We just love our campsite here in Palm Desert. I have been keeping the grass cut and it looks good but hopefully will look even better next year when we return. We bought a second hand shed here so we can store some stuff here that we don't want to haul to New Mexico. - Around...

Mar 20, 2016 - Spring has Arrived !!!

Spring arrived but to be honest it's more like summer here. The temps have been in the 90's most days and now the overnight temps are in the 60's. I've been to the pool most days for a cool off and that helps in the mid afternoon. - We have exactly 2 weeks left here in Palm Desert and I have mixed feelings about our departure. Half of me wants to stay and enjoy our little corner site in the land of RV Parks and the other half is eager to get back to work at The USACOE campground at Cochiti Lake. We really enjoy our summer work there but...

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

Mar 5, 2016 - Back to Indio, CA

We went back to Indio to Indian Waters RV Resort to use the week that we missed out on in January when we had coach trouble. They could not credit our reservation, just kept our week on the books to use later. We didn’t mind going back there again to see our friends Mike and Connie and for Daisy to visit with her buddy, Harley the cat. Daisy nudges him with her nose and rubs up against him, the cat rubs his head on her and bats at her with his paws.

Mar 5, 2016 - January & February 2016

January and February 2016 The new year is flying by – I missed January’s Blog so will combine it with February. We enjoyed having the kids here in early January – not warm enough for Shana (only 60 degrees-- warmer than Anacortes, but not pool weather). After they left, we got back into our routines: Vic calling card Bingo on Sunday evenings, water volleyball on Tue & Thur mornings, Sandy doing the Communication Committee and Board meetings and potlucks & get-togethers. Sandy started playing Hand & Foot (a card game) on Monday and Thursday...

Feb 15, 2016 - Obama rendezvous

The drive from Lake Havasu City took us down the valley carved by the Colorado River. We had no idea there were so many resorts, winter homes, and water enjoyment opportunities nestled here on the western edge of the Arizona desert. The weather was great, the water was bright blue, but when we thought about spending time here some winter, there didn’t seem to be much else there to do. That’s why we headed to the Coachella Valley, home of Palm Springs, Palm Desert and a handful of other lah-di-dah communities. We were here two winters ago...

Feb 11, 2016 - Our New Winter Destination

Since my last journal entry we did as I said but we have now leased an annual site here at Thousand Trails Palm Springs. The actual address is Palm Desert and not Palm Springs but Palm Springs sounds better for advertising purposes I guess. - When we arrived Monday morning the previous RV in Site 399 was gone and now it's ours. (see photo). Hurray, that's the best site in the whole park. In my last entry I said we were going with a month long stay but soon realized that this is what we have been looking for in a winter destination. - The...

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

Feb 8, 2016 - Art, Ponies and Hot Rods

We certainly have been busy lately and we love it that way. There is always something going on around here and our weekends are booked up weeks in advance. - A couple weeks ago we made a trip back up to Whitewater Preserve. We took our little dogs with us this time and maybe that is why we didn't spot any Bighorn Sheep but we were able to see the big trout enjoying the crystal clear water that runs through the preserve. We took a picnic lunch and enjoyed it at one of the picnic tables. There were way too many people there and maybe that's...

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

Jan 29, 2016 - Our Plans Have Changed Again.

Plan was to travel to Nevada on Monday but we just couldn't convince ourselves to leave the Coachella Valley here in sunny warm SoCa. Yes it finally warmed up to our expectations and we didn't want to move to where the low would be 29 and high 49 when we arrived. - However we will be moving to the Thousand Trails Resort about 8 miles away and we opted to pay for a site for a month stay. We have the option to stay a couple weeks at No Charge after that but will probably be moving on to Nevada at that time. - We really like Indian Waters...
