We worked our way south on US-395 and finished our Eastern Sierra trip in the small town of Independence. The weather has been outstanding for the three weeks we have been here. However, you can definitely feel the temperature dropping. For the past couple of days the temperature has been about 10 – 20 degrees below normal and the mountains now have snow on them. Apr 1, 2010 - Manzanar

Apr 1 66520 7:35 No wind, no clouds, bright sun, beautiful. We have camped at -5 below sea level and will now climb up to nearly 5,000 feet to cross the pass out of the valley. Our campground is surrounded by mountains. Long steady climb, top speed about 35, unless we get a dip and then we can hit 40. There is snow on the highest peaks.
