Sep 28, 2017 - Giant redwoods

Drove up north to see the big trees. Normal service resumed; camping, no cork screw and drinking wine out of plastic cups. Sod the Queen. We did a nice walk through a grove of giant redwoods, the tallest trees on the planet. They were massive. Apparently there is more biomass per square mile here than in the rainforest.

Sep 27, 2016 - Redwoods at last

Tuesday, September 27th: Redwoods at last Weather: A dewy 50F morning at sea level on the coast, warming to 90F when the PCH turned inland and gained elevation to meet the US-101 but cooling into the 60s under the redwoods after sunset Route: An even more winding and hilly section of the PCH (something we thought not possible) from Manchester to its end at the junction with US-101 --> Avenue of the Giants (CA-254) --> Humboldt Redwoods State Park --> Burlington Campground The KOA pampered us with hot, fresh, complimentary coffee as we were...

Wildflowers everywhere on the drive up. Dark under the canopy of tall old trees. Very shady, lots of ferns and moss in our campsite. We are at the Burlington campground in the Humboldt Redwoods. We hiked the Founders Grove and the tall trees grove and saw 2 of the largest Redwoods in the world. Makes you feel so insignificant. We had two nights here with blazing campfire and good food. Next stop Fortuna, Ferndale, Samoa and then on to the Jedediah Smith Redwoods.

Aug 31, 2007 - Humboldt Redwoods State Park in the Burlington Campground

We stopped at the Humboldt Redwoods State Park in the Burlington Campground. We saw it, and we needed a campground so we pulled in. This was Labor Day Weekend and campground were not easy to get into. This one was listed as too small for us. Well, we fit in barely. I had to park my truck at their administration building about a 1/4 mile away. It had no hookup and limited hours for a generator.
