Apr 25, 2017 - Hollister

We left the Atascadero Lodge for the Hollister Elks Lodge this morning. Immediately we realized we had a power problem with the motor home any time I needed more than cruising power from the motor. Cheryl started calling diesel repair businesses and we finally found one 75 miles away in Salinas that could fit us in. We were able to make it there by 11:30 to find they were about to go to lunch but would get to us right after another rush job. They got back to us a little after 2 pm. The final result is that our 12 year old metal fuel tank,...

Mar 27, 2016 - Going Further North

My goodness, but California is a long, long state. We went further north last week and will be leaving this coming Monday to go even further north! Right now we are staying at Casa de Fruta Orchard RV Park. It is a large park, 300 sites! This large has its drawbacks. 300 rigs is one of them. The weekends are very busy, but relatively quiet. The children in the park are well behaved and having fun. The adults aren’t as well behaved since they love to start their motorhomes up early in the morning and then let them run for 30+ minutes. Very...

Jun 22, 2014 - Pinnicles National and or day of rest

Teresa and girls decided to stay at campsite and rest today. Boys and I took off...misty and 59 F ..got up to Pinnacles National..87F sunny The hike we picked was to one of two sets of caves. The trail was ok, until the caves very desert like ..average But the caves and above are very cool. You have to scramble and a flashlight is required. Only takes about ten or fifteen minutes to get through them....what did the boys do? Turn around and go opposite way through. On our way back realized in this area a lot of the fruits we eat are grown...

May 17, 2012 - "Casa de Fruta"

Marc did tell us that we would pass a place called Casa de Fruta, and they had a great selection of......well....well....Fruit! We are on our way to Napa and we wanted to head into Napa from the east, because going through San Francisco would've been a trip to hell with 53 feet of responsibility! So we headed north, and then east from Atascadero and ended up stopping at "Casa de Fruta" <<< yep, it's 'House of Fruit' :-) We have never heard of this place, and I, (not she) absolutely hate TOURIST TRAPS!:-) But I (we) really liked this place,...

Travels In Serenity

Apr 11, 2010 - Hellraising in Hollister

Our journey north in California took us to the Thousand Trails San Benito Preserve, arriving on April 11. This campground is located south of Gilroy and Hollister about 50 miles from the Pacific Coast. Nestled in gently rolling hills, the area is abundant with vineyards, various crops, and orchards. Hollister gained its famed in the 50’s when a story was published in Harper’s Bazaar magazine loosely based on a 4th of July gathering that had taken place in Hollister in 1947. A large group of motorcyclists descended on this sleepy, little...

May 26, 2009 - Poppy's new boots!

Now before anybody says anything, you know we are not the types to dress the dog right? Right! Now out here in the countryside poor old Poppy constantly has trouble getting things stuck in her paws and we were advised to be extra cautious about a certain type of grass seed that is known to ebbed itself and cause infection. So the decision to get her a set of doggy boots was purely practical but it was worth it just for the comical value of seeing her take her first tentative steps.

May 25, 2009 - Hollister

As we climbed through the mountains away from LA the horribly noisy and uneven concrete freeways gradually diminished to be replaced by the smooth uncrowded highways that we were more used to. Instead of gripping the wheel with white knuckles, endlessly tapping the brakes avoiding the suicidal lane hoppers at last I could kick off the shoes, let the cruise control take over and just enjoy the changing scenery. The highway dropped into the fertile San Joquin valley which produces all varieties of fruit from green fields which stretch as far...

Jun 29, 2008 - Hollister, CA

Elijah and Alexis spent the day around the park today. They went on the Carousel, Train and of course went shopping and ended the day with yet another Ice Cream! We all turned in early as we knew they had a big surprise in the morning. Mommy had decided to take the bus to us so she could see her babies! Now who missed who?
