Aug 8, 2013 - Eel to the Smith

Today we drove north to the Smith River, stopping on the way at the famous old Samoa Cookhouse in Eureka for a good family style lunch. Past Crescent City, Jedediah Smith State Park was full by the time we got there so we continued on to the little town of Hiouchi and found a nice private campground.

Jun 22, 2012 - Day Trip: Jedediah Smith State Park, CA

It is raining. We start our day in Crescent City at the Redwood Park Headquarters and Visitor Center. I get my stamp and we pick up our maps. While in town, we head to Battery Point Lighthouse. It opens at 9:00 tides permitting. It is not yet 9:00 but it is low tide. We cross the rock path. I get pictures of the lighthouse. We look at the rocks and the tide pools. From Route 101 we turn onto Route 199. We enter Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. The road twists and turns. It is very scenic. We find the visitor center. It is raining hard....

Aug 13, 2010 - Further UP US 101

We had decided the night before to leave around 10AM because we only had 125 miles to Crescent City--the RV park is in Hiouchi, California. While getting ready to leave, we found a tire with a big bulge on the side. So--change the tire and that was not that hard--we still left around 10AM. Beautiful drive up 101 with some fog in the trees and then views of the Pacific beaches. Also lots of redwoods. Hiouchi RV Resort is really Hiouchi Hamlet RV Park--we drove by it thinking the name was wrong. Fortunately we only drove about 50 yards past...
