Aug 13, 2012 - Warning: Objects in mirror are...losing!

Alright, alright, ALRIGHT!!! Today is "Driving Day", from Bandon, Oregon to Gualala, California. Since the weather is screaming hot inland, in many cases over 40c, I decided to take the Shoreline highway which means once again visiting the infamous Legget-Mendocino Coast leg. I always find it hilarious when guys in their pickup trucks decide that it's a race through the corners and try to stay right on my back bumper. After about 8 or 10 good corners, their brakes are gone and so are their carcasses. The nice thing is that the speed limit...

May 27, 2012 - Gualala, CA

We left San Francisco, and once again headed up the coast on Hwy 1. We'd made reservations at different places for the next 4 nights, in hopes of avoiding the "We need to find a place to park for the the night" conversation. The first place on the list; Gualala River Redwood Park. Like most car freaks, I set a goal for this road. But it wasn't a specific time, or a specific max speed I was aiming for. Nay, my goal was far more modest: I just wanted to make it the whole way this time without getting out on the side of the...

Mar 24, 2010 - Heading north from Bodega Bay

On our second day at Bodega Bay we headed north this time along Highway 1 although the weather was forecast for rain later in the day. Just north of Bodega Bay we stopped and decided to have a walk on the beach despite the wind (this one allowed dogs which was pretty rare in California - a not very dog friendly state!). Our beach baby (Jenny) thought this was just great. However the surf was high and the sea was crashing onto the beach. In this part of the world it is advised that you never turn your back to the sea as a rogue wave could...
