Apr 6, 2020 - Back to Elks

04/06 We relocated back to Garden Grove Elks on 4/6 so I could be near family for Easter. I was so disappointed that they have closed churches too. Easter was always so special at church. I will miss that. We had Easter dinner at my sister’s, but it wasn’t the same without Mother who stayed home in bed, not feeling well. We were back to walking around the neighborhood and visiting with friend, Robert. Our lodge decided to try an outdoor fund raiser, serving great BBQ food as a drive thru event in the parking lot. The BBQ was out at the...

Mar 14, 2020 - Back to Garden Grove

We left Vista Elks on the 10th, just as it was starting to rain hard which continued as we headed north past San Clemente. About then it got lighter and by the time we got to Garden Grove Elks, it was dry. We were the 3rd RV at Garden Grove Elks after the parking lot was paved. We didn’t think the slurry was quite set, it looked too shiny, we will see. While here, I started my physical therapy for my hip pain, glad to be back for this. I also saw a doctor for my achy knees. He said I’m not bone on bone, so I just need a little physical...

Feb 5, 2020 - Back to Garden Grove Elks

We certainly enjoyed our week at Emerald Cove socializing with people and lunching at the Tiki Bar, but it was time to head back to Garden Grove Elks Lodge. We decided to take a different route back to experience some new scenery. We went west on the highway 62 north of Joshua Tree driving through small towns of Rice and Old Dale, then Joshua Tree and 29 Palms; then through Morongo Valley & Yucca Valley. Some of these towns had some brightly painted buildings and murals. I would like to go back through here to take more photos some...

Oct 14, 2019 - Garden Grove Elks, Winter Home

Today we finished off out trip back to the Garden Grove Elks Lodge just 83 miles in 1.5 hours. Not much of scenic views from now on as we traveled out of the mountains north of Los Angeles into the LA Basin. Initially we saw the south end of the Aquaduct as it came into L.A. Back to boring freeway travel. As we neared our “winter home” we passed by the Angels Baseball Stadium and the Big A with it’s halo. We are staying at our Elks Lodge for a bit until we go up to our membership campground, Silent Valley after Halloween.

Jan 31, 2019 - January in California

We started our year off in our membership campground in the mountains above Banning, west of Palm Springs. A little chilly but pleasant. We arrived in time for New Year's Eve celebrations to avoid the fireworks that go off in the neighborhood around our Elks Lodge in Garden Grove, which frightens our little Daisy, the noise phobic dog. Larry and his friend Phil have been enjoying flying their drones, practicing and getting better at handling them and taking photos and videos. Larry discovered that they are too large a video file to put them...

Nov 30, 2018 - November SV & GG

We stayed a couple weeks longer at Silent Valley after the big weekend, and after Larry’s employment as a Ranger ended. The park was quiet, as we like it. The only noise besides the nature sounds was the sound of phase one for ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliance. They were demolishing part of the Village Center steps and walkways to be able to make the proper ramps for wheelchairs. Our bartender John and his fiancée Danielle had a “Gender Reveal” party at their house and several of the Silent Valley friends attended. Their...

May 13, 2018 - Garden Grove 4/30-5/13

We came back to our "home port" for a couple of Doctor appointments, and to check up on my mother. She needed a little help with yard work a few other things, so I spent some time with her. We enjoyed visiting with our Elk friends, singing karaoke on Wednesday nights, relaxing in a friend's backyard one evening catching up. One day while doing laundry at my sister's house, Daisy "met" her stuffed dog pillow on the couch. It was very amusing because Daisy wasn't sure what it was. It looked like a dog but it didn't move and didn't smell like...

Jan 31, 2018 - Garden Grove, home for a while

We were back at "home base" in Garden Grove for a week of appointments. We donated blood at the American Red Cross and we had a dermatology appointment. Also, I have been having numbness in my right hand that would wake me up during the night feeling like my hand was on fire. I believe my bad habit of holding my Nikon camera with one hand taking photos on our Alaskan trip all summer over-used my wrist. The orthopedic doctor sent me in for a Nerve Conduction Study that measures an electrical impulse from your hand to your elbow to see how...

Nov 23, 2017 - Garden Grove & Thanksgiving

Time to head back to Garden Grove ELKS Lodge until the end of the year. After we arrived, I received a distress call from my sister who had taken her car in for service. I picked her up and took take her home to wait until her car was ready. Later, back to take her to pick up her car. That’s what siblings are for. The next morning we packed up the coach for Larry to take it to Quinn Machinery for an oil change. I went to my sister’s place for the day, since I was now homeless. Staying at our Elks during November and December is when we...

Sep 25, 2017 - "Home" to Garden Grove Elks

Leaving Bakersfield we passed a lot more grape fields, this must certainly be the Table Grape Capitol. There were also a vast acres of cattle grazing land before we began our slow climb up the “Grapevine” to Tejon Pass. On the south side of Tejon Pass was Pyramid Lake with it’s many legs seen from Interstate 5, and lots of recreation on this lake. Then we passed by Six Flags Magic Mountain in Newhall as we drove through Los Pardes National Forest (mountains) and Angles National forest (mountains). We had wide vistas of the cities below,...

Jan 31, 2017 - January at Garden Grove Elks

We spent all of January at our Elks Lodge in Garden Grove. We missed our annual trip to Arizona, Quartzsite and Yuma, due to Cheryl’s skin cancer treatments. It was a daily morning appointment for six weeks for Radiation on her nose. To say she looked like Rudolph is an understatement. There was also a basal cell spot on her forehead that needed to be removed surgically by the Dermatologist and closed by a Facial Plastic Surgeon. And finally another "suspicious area" that was treated with Chemo Cream daily for two weeks. We enjoyed the...

Jun 8, 2016 - Garden Grove, CA - Back to Kauai

(Elena Writing) As Ron mentioned in the previous blog, I left for Kauai again. On Thursday, May 26, I flew to Kauai via Honolulu on Hawaiian Airlines. To begin with, Super Shuttle picked me up five minutes late after the scheduled time, and I just barely made it to the gate when they announced the flight was delayed due to a mechanical problem. After numerous updates, the flight finally departed 4-1/2 hours later. My flight to Kauai was rescheduled to depart at 7 PM and that, too, was delayed while waiting for the arrival of two connecting...
