Jan 31, 2017 - January at Garden Grove Elks

We spent all of January at our Elks Lodge in Garden Grove. We missed our annual trip to Arizona, Quartzsite and Yuma, due to Cheryl’s skin cancer treatments. It was a daily morning appointment for six weeks for Radiation on her nose. To say she looked like Rudolph is an understatement. There was also a basal cell spot on her forehead that needed to be removed surgically by the Dermatologist and closed by a Facial Plastic Surgeon. And finally another "suspicious area" that was treated with Chemo Cream daily for two weeks. We enjoyed the...

Jun 8, 2016 - Garden Grove, CA - Back to Kauai

(Elena Writing) As Ron mentioned in the previous blog, I left for Kauai again. On Thursday, May 26, I flew to Kauai via Honolulu on Hawaiian Airlines. To begin with, Super Shuttle picked me up five minutes late after the scheduled time, and I just barely made it to the gate when they announced the flight was delayed due to a mechanical problem. After numerous updates, the flight finally departed 4-1/2 hours later. My flight to Kauai was rescheduled to depart at 7 PM and that, too, was delayed while waiting for the arrival of two connecting...

May 29, 2016 - Garden Grove, CA - Home Alone

160529 (Ron Writing) We got back from our vacation to Kauai over two weeks ago and our original plan was to be on the road traveling soon after that. But like all our plans they are subject to change. Elena decided she really wanted to go back to Kauai to attend the Celebration of Life service for her late uncle so she flew back there this past Thursday. The service was yesterday. I decided to stay here in Garden Grove this time – one of the few times we’ve been apart since we started full-time RVing and the first time we’ve been apart on...

May 12, 2016 - Garden Grove, CA - Last Couple Days in HI

Since we arrived on Kauai I’ve been watching the weather forecast for the north side mountainous area of the island. It’s been very cloudy and rainy up there every day. On May 10th the forecast said “mostly sunny” – that sounded more promising so we headed up that way. As we were leaving Poipu we noticed a Coast Guard helicopter hovering a mile or two off shore. We stopped to see what was happening and with the camera’s telephoto lens we were able to see they were rescuing at least 3 people who had apparently abandoned a nearby boat. We...

Apr 27, 2016 - Garden Grove, CA - On the Road Again - Finally!

(Ron Writing) We’ve been keeping very busy since the last blog update. Once we get settled into North Ranch for quite a period of time it takes awhile to get everything organized and ready for travel again. But I’m getting ahead of myself. First a few highlights of what we’ve been doing the past few weeks. On April 1st we enjoyed a nice lunch and visit with friends Dick and Dot at Native Wings in Surprise, AZ. This was our first time eating at this restaurant and we would go back again – good chicken. This was our last get-together with...

Mar 31, 2016 - Back to Garden Grove

We came back to Garden Grove Elks to be with family for Easter and to get our taxes done by our long time Tax Man. I worked doing heavy yardwork at my mother’s for two weekends in a row and I discovered that “I am too damn old to do this kind of work”. I am so sore all over, and I strained or sprained my hamstring, ouch. While here, we popped over to visit our friends Jim & Wendy, from our boating days. They live aboard their boat in Alamitos Bay, and it was a gorgeous afternoon for our visit, and a lovely sunset to boot.

Jan 2, 2016 - Rough start to the new year

We got the coach ready to leave and while Larry was checking the air in the tires he found a flat tire. It was the rear inner dually on the drivers side. I called Good Sam Emergency Road Service. The call out was free but any repair or tire replacement would be on us. It ended up to be about $94 for the repair & labor, it needed a new stem. So, we finally got to leave about 12:30 p.m. when about an hour later, driving through Riverside, the engine died. Called Good Sam Emergency Road Service again. When the tow truck was dispatched and...

Dec 31, 2015 - December

This is a busy month. We made appointments for all our doctors, the dentist & the Vet and scheduled the annual tests. I finally went to the Orthopedist to look at my shoulder that had been painful since mid August when I was scrubbing the grout of our floor tiles and over used my deltoid. After x-rays he said there was no damage, just over use and probably years of bad posture (hunched over a computer keyboard). He sent me for three weeks of physical therapy to Re-educate my muscles. I was helping my mother when ever I could with yard work...

Sep 18, 2015 - Garden Grove, CA - The End of a Wonderful Vacation

(Ron Writing) Yesterday we left the condo very early to meet some of Elena’s cousins at McDonald’s in Eleele for breakfast and one last visit as they were on their way to work. After that we went back to our condo to pack and get checked-out by 11 AM. We just made it! Our flight didn’t leave until 8:55 PM so we had a few more hours to enjoy before we needed to return the car and check in for our flight. We first went up to Kukuiolono Park in Kalaheo. It’s a large park with a public golf course, restaurant, and great views of the southwest...

Aug 25, 2015 - Garden Grove, CA - Visiting Our Friends in CA

(Ron Writing) We’ve been so busy lately I haven’t taken time to update the journal even though there’s quite a bit of news lately. We left our very nice mountain campsite at 7:30 AM on Aug. 12th. We had monsoon rains all during the night so the gravel/dirt roads leading out of the area were very wet and sloppy and the truck and trailer got a good mud bath the first 5 or 6 miles before we got to paved roads. We headed straight for Scottsdale and stopped at Mayo Clinic for my blood draw. From there we continued on to WestWorld and stayed at...

Mar 29, 2015 - Back home, Garden Grove Elks

Monday we came back “home” to the Garden Grove Elks Lodge to finish off doctor appointments and to see our Tax Man. We made it "home" in time for Pizza Sunday, and the lodge was packed. The Western Band was good and a lot of people were dancing. The pizza’s were great as usual, and it was nice to see everyone. While running errands or dining in the area, we came across some very strange creatures walking the streets near the Anaheim Convention Center which was hosting the Comic Con/Wonder Con Convention. There were mythical creatures and...

Jan 1, 2015 - Another new year

We are resting up today after Partying in the Elks Lodge last night. We had a rough night due to the neighbors shooting off fireworks and making a lot of noise until after 3:00 a.m. Our new dog, Daisy, was very distressed with all the noise and couldn't settle down until it was over. Can't wait to leave for Indio tomorrow where it will be quiet.
