Jun 9, 2011 - Visited Huntington and Long Beach - Great Surfing Places

We had a wonderful visit with Karyn, Johnny, Carolyn, and their kids. Lots to talk about from the Powers Country Store days on up. We caught up on a lot. The steaks were to die for also. Johnny, Karyn's husband sure can cook a rib eye. Today we drove to Huntington Beach. It was cool and overcast but Karyn said June is what the forecasters call June gloom. It is mostly overcast from the ocean a good part of the day and keeps the temperature down. When it burnt off the temp became more comfortable. While at the beach we ate at Dukes which is...

Jun 8, 2011 - Leave Las Vegas for Fountain Valley, CA. and Friends

Ran 6 miles down Boulder Highway at 5:30AM to avoid the heat of the day. After Breakfast we packed up the motor-home and drove to Campers World for an oil change, then stopped at Wal-mart for necessary supplies and California here we come. Well, it wasn't that easy. It seems the GPS decided to take us out of town on a convoluted route to I-10. First we hit closed roads due to construction, then the GPS got confused and kept giving wrong directions. Sandie said it kept loosing the satellite. How on earth can you loose a satellite? They are...

Aug 14, 2008 - Day 11

Today we made our way back South to visit the mission at San Juan Capistrano (even though the swallows won’t be there) and have lunch at The Tea House at Los Rios. The town was very charming and the mission was very interesting. Everywhere we looked were beautiful flowers. We came back to Sue & Mandi’s and did some laundry. We will have to get this posted early and take some time to pack and reorganize the RV before Sue’s birthday dinner. We depart Fountain Valley in the morning for the next leg of our journey. We plan on a stop at the...

Aug 12, 2008 - Day 9

Today we toured the California beaches. Our first stop was Huntington Beach and brunch at Ruby’s Diner way out at the end of the Huntington Beach Pier. On the way to Ruby’s at the end of the pier we passed several rows of beach volleyball setups. This is where the reigning Olympic beach volleyball women call home court. Lots of people were out there hitting the ball over the net. For those not into ball games the next stop on the pier was to watch the surfers. It seems these guys (and gals) spend their life waiting on their surf boards for...

Aug 11, 2008 - Day 8

This really was a day for chilling out. We sat out by the pool and read the newspapers until way past noon, then dozed and worked on the trip log, which has been neglected due to the lack of Wi Fi connections along the way. This may be a situation we have all during the trip. If that is the case, we will hope to get a few more days posted before we depart here and then again from Reno and Canon City. Once we get up in the mountains we may not even have phone reception, never mind internet. Mandi had her Sweet Adelines chorus practice...

Aug 10, 2008 - Day 7

We were up early again and started to pack the RV for travel. We made arrangements to check out of the RV park late so we could visit the San Diego Zoo. Advise to potential visitors-go on a weekday during the school year! After finally finding a place to park and unload the scooter we were off to explore the zoo we have all heard about for years. Prepare to bring vast quantities of cash for tickets, food and souvenirs. We chose to ride the tour bus around the park to get a good overview. We soon discovered that there was a tremendous amount...
