Gene and I met one year ago today. We will be leaving soon, traveling to Reno, NV and then on to Fish Camp, CA by Yosemite. Got on the road at 11:35 am PT. and arrived in California at 3:50 PT. Stopped just before entering Yosemite and ate and got gas $4.09 a gallon! Drove through the park from 6:30 until 10:30 PT to get to our hotel. The pass we had to go through had been closed due to snow earlier in the week. We saw beautiful mountains before it got dark. Twisty, turning road with tunnels and road construction, but we made it! Jun 2, 2010 - Fish Camp, CA (Day 2) - The Largest Living Things On Earth

(Ron Writing) California has several groves of Giant Sequoia trees in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. One of those groves is the Mariposa Grove within the boundary of Yosemite National Park. Mariposa Grove is only about 5 miles from Summerdale Campground where we are staying. This morning we drove about three miles to the road leading to Mariposa Grove and then took a free park shuttle the last couple miles to the grove. Jun 1, 2010 - Fish Camp, CA - Summerdale NFS Campground

(Ron Writing) Well after 8 days in Yosemite our luck at snagging campsites ran out. We left the valley this morning heading back out the south entrance. We made a stop at Wawona, near the south entrance to see if any campsites were available. They had just one site open but it was not large enough to accommodate our rig. We continued out the south entrance and stopped at Summerdale Campground, a National Forest Service campground near Fish Camp. We were able to get a site here for two nights – just what we wanted ($10/day, no hookups)....
