Feb 28, 2016 - San Diego CA

Another beautiful day, we decided to drive back downtown San Diego to wander around the water front. We arrived around 11:00 am and parking was at a premium already. The water front is so vibrant with all the people milling around, all the little tents set up selling the usual junk to take your money. The amount of traffic on the drive down here for a Sunday morning was unbelievable. I see why so many people are riding bicycles in the downtown area, there are several rental places to get them. We always ride the Ducks when we are in cities...

Feb 27, 2016 - San Diego CA

What an awesome day this was. The weather was clear and 70 degrees so we drove to downtown San Diego. Our destination was the USS Midway, an aircraft carrier museum moored at Navy Pier which is across the harbor from the US Naval Base San Diego. This was the largest aircraft carrier when launched eight day after WW II ended. The ship is 1001 ft. long, 258 ft. wide, reach a speed of 33 knots or 37 miles per hour and had a crew of 4500, including the air wing. The ship was named for the Battle of Midway Island at the beginning of World War...

Feb 25, 2016 - El Cajon CA

Time for us to move on, we have been in the same spot for five days which is not normal for us. Ray and Carol were going to drive to one of their children’s home to spend a few days also. The timing was just right for us to leave. The route that the GPS plotted took us direct over the mountains which I was wondering if there was a better route. I talked with some other folks about the drive and they told me that the best way was to have the wife drive the tow vehicle over the mountains and hook up later. The roads were very narrow and a lot...

Mar 21, 2014 - El Cajon, CA

3/21/14 We pull out of Benson AZ again headed west. Pretty big trip today, about 450 miles, alot of it going through the mountains, so we get started pretty early. We are on the road by about 0800. We will be on the interstate most of the day they have the best passes through the mountains. Past Tucson we go through more desert and mountains. We go by some very green farms, with enough water you can really make the desert grow. We see lots of wind farms in and near the mountains, we also pass some huge solar power stations. Once we get...

Arrived safely at Vacationers RV Resort, WOW, a person can not assume what is suggested on a website or brochues is accurate. this is not a quite resort, it backs onto hwy 8 i think it is a total of 6 lanes. the pictures in all of the brochures are when they are all new. rules state no storage under your RV, but the long term RV's have junk under der neath, imagine that, look who's calling something junk. this site is $50/night Remenber i said i would not drive on a 4 lane hwy. HO ho ho. I lied again, drove on a 7 lane hwy. UNbelievable,...

Nov 13, 2011 - Gobble, gobble

We had a very nice rainy day. It poured most of the day but we had some interesting activities planned. We met a great couple in a campground in Austin near the beginning of our trip. You might remember we had 3 children of our refugee family staying with us for a night. We met Art and Beth there and struck up a friendly conversation and exchanged information. Well they live 4 miles from where we are camping now and they invited us to lunch at their home in the hills. We had an excellent time chatting and learning about each other. Art is a...

Nov 12, 2011 - Out and about

San Diego is fantastic! The weather is superb, the sights are great and I can swim anytime I want. And I did again today. We took the big honkin dually to quench it's thirst. Amazing, diesel ranges from $4.559 to $409.9 (that's a 46 cent per gallon swing). We went for the $4.099 AND it was on our way. Then we headed to Pt. Loma San Diego where legend has it the first person to set foot on what is now Southern California was Rodriguez Cabrillo. We went to the Cabrillo National Monument and the views of San Diego were fabulous. On the point...

Feb 3, 2011 - Uneventful Day

Today Tom and I drove to the closest Camping World to exchange a TV we purchased for the bedroom in the motorhome because it had a bad pixel. After driving 40 miles each way Tom hooked it up only to find that the one we got in exchange was worse. So that one will also be going back, but not today....

Today we decided just to hang around at David and Clairetta's and Jan and I got caught up on the laundry. It had been awhile since we just finished a week of boondocking in the Quartzite Desert. So we did that and cleaned our rigs some while Tom and John did their guy things went to Fry's (which is a huge electronic store much bigger than Best Buy) and then to HRO (Ham Radio Outlet) as Tom and to exchange a charger he got from them that was not working correctly.

Jan 31, 2011 - Happy Birthday Tom

Today is Tom's birthday. So John and Jan and I took him to downtown San Diego for a wonderful Harbor Excursion (boat ride) along the beautiful San Diego Bay. On this cruise we saw the Aircraft Carrier "Midway". We also saw the Ronald Regan CVN-76. Then I mention to Jan that Tom's favorite food is "seafood", anyone that knows Tom knows he loves his seafood. So she recommended the Fish Market that looks out over the San Diego Bay. It was fantastic. I think Tom really enjoyed his day. Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear Tom, Happy...

Nov 29, 2009 - Thanksgiving Week

Sunday, Nov. 29, 5 pm PST Chula Vista, CA I spent the past week in Chula Vista visiting with my friends Bob and Carolyn and Carolyn’s 90-yr-old mother Cora, with the RV parked in the Elk’s club RV lot. On Sunday, I visited Balboa Park in San Diego with Bob. We took pictures of orchids in the arboretum and some of the park buildings built for an exposition in the early part of the 20th century and refurbished in the 1930’s. The weather was lovely – sunny and warm in the sunlit areas and cool and breezy in the shade. We also visited the arts...
