Too windy to hike today (gusts to 30 mph around Tahoe), we opted to drive to Truckee, California. We tried to find a visitor center to get some maps and information of things to do. We saw a sign that said "California Welcome Center." The only problem - every parking spot in town had a "PAY FEE" to park. That is a one heck of a welcome. "We want you to stay and visit, but you have to spend your money to get a parking spot." That does not seem like much of a welcome. We drove right on past Truckee to Donner Memorial State Park. Apr 8, 2009 - Donner Pass (Snow Video-No Canibalism)

Donner Pass: April 2009 Some 155 years after the initial Donner Party, The Grizzly and occupants crossed the Sierras in a snow storm today April 8, 2009. We crossed a few days ago in bright sun. We had a meeting in Reno to return today for meetings tomorrow in Sacramento. We did not anticipate the snow and the early morning found closures on I-80 west bound. We waited until 11:00am to head out on the two hour trek. Most of the crossing was in the mountains and the video captures a few minutes of the crossing. The Grizzly was amazing...
