Mar 21, 2017 - K Q Ranch

We had heard from Sal and Sue as well as other CRA owners how nice KQ Ranch was, so we decided to take a drive to Julian to check it out. It was farther than we had anticipated but it was a beautiful drive over a winding mountain road. Max speed was only about 45 mph, and we were the slow ones. Some of these California drivers were crazy! Eventually we made it to the town of Julian, a really cute little touristy town, famous for it's apples. We passed the Julian Pie Factory with the intention of stopping by on the way home. Unfortunately it...

Fun between jobs

Mar 20, 2017 - California

We spent the weekend doing chores and relaxing, then Monday was moving day. I had been wanting to go to the Joshua Tree National Park, so we chose an entirely new campground in southern California. We picked this one for 2 reasons: proximity to the park and a hot spring spa on site. The road down was in good shape and we made good time, so were parked a d set up at a reasonable hour. I had leftovers in the fridge for an easy dinner, but pa king and then setting up again was tiring, so we made it an early night. Before bed we read over the...

Fun between jobs

Jan 23, 2017 - Out of the High Desert

Well after a week of a bit of every kind of weather except snow, it was time to move on down the road. As all have likely seen, California has been getting whacked with storm after storm. Lots of snow in their mountains, and uncontainable amounts of rain. Lots of mudslides, roadways everywhere closed or completely awash in so much water, travel is impossible. It's been a learning experience doing the high desert this trip, some good, some bad, but weather has been the same pretty much wherever you are in S Cal this year. we originally were...

Into the sun 16/17

Mar 20, 2016 - Desert Hot Springs, CA - Sands RV & Golf Resort

3/20/2016 (Sunday) Checked into the Sands RV & Golf Resort in Desert Hot Springs for a week (Cal-Am resort). Site #2…close to the golf course and all the facilities. It was very windy during our first 2 nights. Michelle was rocking and rolling even with the stabilizers down. If this is typical of the weather here, stay away and find a place in Palm Springs. Jeff, the Enterprise pick up guy told us that it is calmer there as the mountain shields it from the wind. 3/22/2016 (Tuesday) Day exploring Joshua Tree National Park. Got to the visitor...

Oct 22, 2014 - Palm Springs, CA

The 'eagle' has landed'. Elvis has entered the building. We arrived later in the day after a drive from Flagstaff. Brains have run out of energy. We skipped a few sites in Arizona and we skipped Las Vegas. It feels good to be 'winter home' . We can always go and visit those places from here now. Was going to go to Vegas anyway to see Diana Krall in November but her tour just got cancelled. Took the cover off the AC unit and plugged into power. Inside trailer was like oven. It was 35C today. Sitting out on our deck writing this. It's 86F...

Hancock Log

Mar 27, 2014 - Desert Hot Springs, CA

HI We are now in Desert Hot Springs, CA. We were going to meet up with Mike & Julie at Joshua Tree but were having problems with our refer working on propane therefore we weren’t able to dry camp so we added another week here at our RV park, Desert Pools. The Santa Ana winds are blowing so hard it almost knocked poor Rufus off his feet. The whole RV rocked and rolled all day and night. Today it is mostly gusts of high winds but breaks in between, much nicer. Mark cleaned out the propane area and blew out the valve and we hope that will take...

Mar 25, 2014 - Desert Hot Springs, CA

3/25/14 We pull out of Vacationer RV resort in El Cajon headed to Desert Hot Springs, CA. We don't pull out till about 1000 partly because we want to wait for the morning traffic to die down and partly because it is a fairly short trip and we do not want to get there before the 1300 check in time. I should not have worried about the check in time it takes longer than I had planed we take the mountain route and on minor secondary roads, nice ride but I need to stop and let the brakes cool a couple of times. Going down steep slopes at...

Nov 22, 2013 - Not A Very Good Day

I certainly had some problems yesterday. - First problem....No Hot Water....What could it be? Judy just took a shower and soon after , no hot water, not even a trickle out the faucet. First I thought about it for awhile and then I had my lunch. I tried this and tried that in diagnosing the problem. It turned out to be a faulty check valve on the top outlet of the water heater. OK, you have to remember that this is an RV and everything is COMPACT. I had just about enough room to get one arm in there to work but I did get the check valve out...

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

Nov 19, 2013 - Mission Accomplished !!!

This morning we decided to visit Whitewater Preserve, a short drive west and then about 5 miles up a canyon into the San Gorgonio Wilderness. The preserve is 2,826 acres and it includes the Whitewater River. - We arrived early and thought that we may be the first to arrive but we were wrong as there were many cars in the parking lot. We made a quick stop at the Ranger Station and started on my quest of seeing Big Horn Sheep in nature. I've seen them in zoo's but never in their natural environment. - At the start of the hike Judy had the...

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

Nov 17, 2013 - Desert Hot Springs

After a short drive from Indio we arrived at Catalina Spa RV Resort in Desert Hot Springs. It is higher in elevation, over 1000 ft compared to below sea level in Indio. Judy says it seemed like we traveled on level ground the whole way but we must have been on a steady gradual climb. It was only a 30 mile drive and I would have thought we could have noticed the climb. - Shortly after we arrived the wind started and the hundreds of windmills close by were spinning like they were ready for take off. Some may not like them spoiling the scenery...

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

Mar 9, 2013 - Windy

The wind has not stopped blowing since our arrival,I mean big blow you away winds. Rain overnight with a drop in freezing temps brought us quite a view in the morning. Snow capped mountains around us and snowy highway pass's heading north. A rare start for us was up at 7 and off to the College of the Desert Street Fair Saturday. There are some 340 Vendors offering New Merchandise, Food Court, Arts and Crafts and a Farmers Market We attemped to get this through this twice last year and both times we failed. But we made it today ,even after...

Mar 7, 2013 - walkin' and gawkin'

According to the local lore, the LaQuinta Art Fair is a must see. This juried show includes 300 of the best of the best artists. Judging by all the rich folks that seem to live around here, if I were an artist, this is a show where I would want to bring my work for sale. We studied the website before we came and aimed for the free parking lot. It was the size of a postage stamp, but there was plenty of valet parking. We found a spot on the street. Then we had to pay to get in, quite unusual from our experience. But the items on display were...
