Mar 26, 2017 - California Family

After another day of rest we drove over to Dana Point to spend a day and a night with Don's half brother and sister, Pete and Elizabeth. It had been many years since we had seen them, so we were excited to make this trip. Seeing them was actually another reason why we had camped in California in the first place. We arrived a little after 1:00 and spent the next 5 or 6 hours out on the terrace admiring the view and trying to get caught up on each other's lives. I'd say we made a pretty fair start, and in the process put away a goodly amount...

Fun between jobs

Jan 7, 2012 - Lunch and Dinner at Dana Point

John Ludwig is keeping us busy every minute we are in California. I am staying at the Laguna Hills Lodge along with more than a dozen other guests who flew in for Muriel's birthday surprise. Today Anne Koen, whom I met in Panama a few years ago, picked me up to take a driving tour of the area. We took the Pacific Coast Highway to Balboa then south to Dana Point for lunch. By coincidence, I'm meeting the party crew at Harpoon Henry's at Dana Point Marina for dinner also.

Dec 31, 2011 - Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011 -Leaving Doheny

Wednesday, December 28, 2011 - Moving from Doheny State Park I was up by 8 O’clock and after my morning routine and coffee, I started preparing the motor home for a move. On Christmas day, when we were at my nephew Scott’s, he told me that I could park in front of his house, as RV could be there 72 hours, or longer if no one complains. Scott’s property covers a lot of area and due to the hilly landscape, I wasn’t in front of anyone’s home, so will move there for as long as possible. Scott’s home is only a few miles from Doheny, so I...

Dec 22, 2011 - Wednesday, On to Dana Point, California

Wednesday, December 21, 2011 Even though I was parked less than 50 feet from the freeway, I slept well, as the traffic thinned out after about nine O’clock. I purposely parked off the pavement to be away from the semi-trucks and it worked out well. I was up and ready to roll by 8:15, heading off towards LA in the cool morning air. I needed the heater on, as it was cold enough until the sun warmed the ground and then I had the window open to keep from getting too hot. I took I-15 into the valley, and then headed south on Hwy 91, connecting...

Apr 26, 2011 - Don't Call Me Ishmael

We had a chance to meet one of the Foretravel gurus on Monday. Barry and his wife Darlene met us for lunch. Barry knows so much about Foretravels that he has a website just chock full of information, and if he doesn't know it, he knows where to find it! We had a great lunch getting to know these two and hope that we meet again along the road. On Tuesday, we drove about 40 miles to the south to Dana Harbor to take our whale watching cruise - Groupon of course. It was a nice drive, and the Dana Point harbor is lovely. I had a great time just...

Two Hams in a Can

Feb 22, 2011 - Dana Point

DANA POINT Dana Point is a beautiful area about an hour’s drive north of San Diego and about halfway between San Diego and Los Angeles International airport, where were flying home from. We had stayed there a few years ago for a week at the exquisitely beautiful St. Regis Monarch Beach Hotel. There are also about three other great hotels to stay at in the area. Since we did not make reservations ahead of time, upon arriving in Dana Point, we visited the various hotels to see what they could offer us in terms of an ocean view suite. Although...

Apr 14, 2010 - Back On The Water Again "after 14 Years"

Well what a great day Bev and I had . Did a little hiking, had breakfast with friends and even did some shopping. Then met everyone at the boat and off we went. Dick took us out on his boat and boy did it bring back memories. I went in and out of this harbour many times when I was helping Dick and Dianne started the Fountain dealership in the early 90's. We had a great dinner and headed back to the camp. Tomorrow we head north on the PCH. So close to Alaska I can almost see the Polar bears.

Apr 13, 2010 - Busing Miss Bev To The Coast

Today we leave Indio California and head for the coast to Dana Point. There we will visit more friends who are retired from Indy racing. Then catch the PCH all the way to San Francisco. We arrived in Dana Point and got a site at a State Park. State Parks in California are nice but high dollar. 35.00 a night for dry camp and 50 to 60 dollars a night for hookups. We're only three blocks from our friends who live in Dana Point Harbour on their yacht. And we are on the pacific ocean. YES we finally made it to the west coast after 5 months. I...

Oct 21, 2008 - Farewell to Shirley

October 21-31, 2008 we traveled to California due to the sudden worsening of Jim's sister, Shirley's condition. Shirley passed away before we could get out to California. A very nice memorial service and Celebration of her life was held. We thank God for Shirley and that we were blessed to have gotten to see her in September when she was doing very well and traveled from California to Colorado to visit with us and Jim's brother, Bob, and sister-in-law, Carol. On the way to California, we stopped in Las Vegas. We have been to Las Vegas many...

Mar 29, 2008 - Trailie's first outing

Trailie, Maggie and I were lucky to be invited to camp overnight at Doheny in Dana Point. BEACHFRONT on a Saturday night! Karen and Heather had a friend that needed to leave last minute so we were fortunate enough to use the site for the night. I didn't realize how much attention this little camper was going to get. It's fun to talk about my upcoming adventure with strangers. Most think it's interesting, but a few wonder what I am thinking. Alone? In that? For how long? So, even though I am not on my journey quite yet, I thought I'd post...

Dec 30, 2007 - Dana Point

Although we left Avalon to avoid the next round of forecasted Santa Ana winds, there was not even a ripple on the water as we headed to Dana Point. It was great to meet up with Dirt (an old friend, not terra firma), and to revisit several spots where Peter & I honeymooned. We also took our first swim… Yikes, at a meer 56 degrees, we're not in tropical waters yet! We had New Years Day dinner at The Chart House overlooking the marina.
