Jun 15, 2016 - Coarsegold, CA - On the Road Again!

(Ron Writing) After a much longer stay in Garden Grove, CA than originally planned we have finally got the wheels turning again. We left Garden Grove early Monday afternoon (6-13-16) and headed north on I-5. That took us across the LA basin through very heavy traffic and it was pretty slow going. The traffic there just seems to be worse every time we go back. North of the Grapevine we took CA-99 north. We arrived in Tulare, CA at about 7 PM and decided to spend the night. Tuesday morning we continued north on CA-99 to Fresno, CA. From...

May 26, 2016 - SKP Park Sierra in Coarsegold, California

We left Three Rivers this morning and moved to SKP Park Sierra in Coarsegold, California, a couple hours north. This is a really nice RV Park for Escapees RV club members. The sites are all privately owned or leased. Owners can put them in a rental pool when they are not using them. Every site is landscaped by the owner, so they are all different. The sites are large and are on a terraced hillside. Ours is on the outside edge of the park with views across the valley through the trees. We got here around one o’clock. After we got set up, I...

Our 2016 Travels

Apr 6, 2016 - Park of the Sierra RV Park (3/31 - 4/6/16)

We left Ahwanee and went back towards Fresno about 13 miles. We are staying at an Escapees (SKP) RV park. Escapees parks are primarily sites that people own and live there full time. They also have some that can be rented out to the rest of us. This is a really nice park that has over 250 sites. It is quite hilly and very pretty. It includes a large clubhouse where they host socials, potluck dinners, movie nights, card games and many other activities. There is also a large lending library which includes books, VHS tapes and DVDs. I borrowed...

May 17, 2015 - Coarsegold/Park of the Serras

Coarsegold is a census-designated place in Madera County, California. The population was 1,840 at the 2010 census. The Picayune Rancheria of Chukchansi Indians, a federally recognized tribe, is headquartered in Coarsegold. Coarsegold has previously had several names, including Coarse Gold, Gold Gulch, Michaels, Oro Grosso, Texas Flat, and Coarse Gold Gulch. The place was first called Texas Flat after miners from Texas discovered gold there in 1849. By 1874, the name had changed to Michaels, honoring Charles Michaels, a local merchant. A...

2015 RV Adventure

Mar 31, 2015 - A Great Change

We were hoping for a longer visit with my brother and his family, but unfortunately, things didn't turn out like we had hoped. We were only able to visit with them early this morning, at breakfast time, for a couple of hours. But sometimes you just have to make do with what you got, and we enjoyed the time we had together. Leaving family and friends behind is always the hardest part of our lifestyle, but we always enjoy the greetings and hugs when we see them, while they last. -- Since we had a short travel day today, we did not need to...

Pretty Damn Nice!

Apr 10, 2014 - Yosemite National Park

We left one of our favorite camping spots ever at Sequoia RV Ranch. For the next three weeks we stayed at an Escapees Co-op RV park. Escapees is a club primarily aimed at Full time travelers. They have parks where you buy a place to park your RV. Some, like here at Park Sierra, you buy a "share" in the park and can live on your spot. When you move on, you can sell back your "share." There is a 6-8 month waiting list. Escapees also have agreements with many other private parks to offer discounts. Some of those discounts are at 50%. Anyway,...

Gulliver's Travels

Jun 4, 2012 - Coarsegold, CA - End of a Nice Week in Yosemite

(Ron Writing) We had a quiet and relaxing time for the remainder of our time in Yosemite NP. On Saturday I installed the new hitch parts and performed all the monthly routine checks and maintenance on the truck and trailer. On Sunday we stayed at home in the campground except relaxing and doing some reading. Elena also practiced her new drawing skills. When we were at Curry Village using the WiFi yesterday there was a drawing class for kids being conducted near where we were sitting. Elena listened in to the lessons and enjoyed trying to...

May 27, 2012 - Coarsegold, CA - Day (6) - Our Special Day

(Ron Writing) Happy Anniversary to us! And, happy Memorial Day to all of you. Today we celebrated our 34th wedding anniversary but we really started the celebration by going out to dinner last night. We wanted to enjoy the special Saturday prime rib buffet at the Chukchansi Casino and Resort – it looked better than the menu for tonight’s buffet. This afternoon we took a drive into the business district of Coarsegold where they were having a “Peddlers Fair” – sort of a large flea market. We spent some time walking around looking at all the...

May 24, 2012 - Coarsegold, CA (Day 3) - Fun In the Kitchen

(Elena Writing) – We’ve been stopping at roadside produce stands along the way as we drive through farm areas in the central valley. Produce and fruits are abundant this time of the year. The oranges are so sweet and juicy and only $3 for a 10# bag. It’s also cherry picking time and they are beautiful and delicious. I’ve been busy all day in the kitchen catching up with cooking and baking goodies. Baked some Oatmeal Peanut Butter Cookies, a first-time recipe from Bon Apetit, which was a winner. Roasted a bag of raw almonds. Made a Quinoa...

May 23, 2012 - Coarsegold, CA (Day 2) - Great Buffet Lunch

(Ron Writing) Today we enjoyed the “Senior Lunch Buffet” at the Chuckchansi Gold Casino and Resort here in Coarsegold. This is one of the nicest Indian casinos we’ve seen in our travels and it also has one of the best buffets and the prices are very reasonable – excellent value. First thing this morning I checked to see if any campsites had opened-up in Yosemite Valley and to our great delight there was an opening for five contiguous days starting on May 28. So our plan is to just hang out here in Coarsegold for a few days enjoying the...

May 22, 2012 - Coarsegold, CA - Tooth Repair

(Ron Writing) Our original plan was to spend a few more days in Kings Canyon and that would have been a great plan considering the wonderful weather. But Saturday night one of Elena’s older crowns came off while she was flossing. Monday morning she started calling dentists in the area and was able to get an appointment with Dr. Nathan Vick in Fresno for noon today. This morning we packed up and drove to Fresno. Elena was really impressed with the Dr. Vick and his staff and by 1 PM she had her crown tweaked a little and cemented back in...

May 11, 2012 - Washburn & Glacier Point Yosemite National Park

Another GREAT day in the Yosemite National Park. We went to Glacier & Washburn Point. We drove up the mountain to 7,200 feet, over- looking the valley that we had visited a few days ago. The temperature was 59 degrees with some snow still on the ground. This was a breath taking sight. The pictures don’t show how broad or how pretty the view. We were blessed to see several animals on the way, deer, one coyote, and two bear, a mom and her cub. I will send out two Journals of this place because of being limited on how many pictures I can send....
