Oct 17, 2016 - Let's talk about the weather

This stop was just an overnighter to break up the long drive to LAX. Nothing to do in the motel, so I pulled together a couple more video clips to show some of the weather we've had. This starts around the Grand Canyon. Before that, it was just hot. Enjoy the ear worm.

Nov 5, 2013 - Kingman, AZ to Harris Ranch, CA

November 5 Another good day for travel. More Rte 40 until we hit Barstow when we cut west on Rte 58. Now much in the way of scenery other than we saw several “solar power” fields. We were making good time so decided to go to Harris Ranch. BW was totally booked and the hotel reviews were pretty grim. Went to plan which was a stop in Firebough. Not sure we maneuvered through Bakersfield to Rte 5 in the most efficient manner but we got there! Bob really wanted to eat at Harris Ranch so we stopped at the BW and indeed they had a NS queen...

Apr 24, 2013 - On the road to Antioch, CA

We left Santa Clarita this morning, heading toward Antioch, CA to see Jack's brother David and Jane. We only made it as far as Coalinga and stayed at an RV Park overnight which was right next to an almond tree grove. I learned that many years ago, the trains used to go between San Francisco and LA, and right in the middle they would stop at the Coaling Station A to recoal the train, thus it got it's name COALINGA. Met some people there from Menomonie and Barron Wisconsin which is right near Chippewa Falls where Sally's relatives are from.

Apr 11, 2013 - Redding, CA

Greetings from Redding California. Absolutely nothing new to report today - we just drove and drove. Saw lots of fruit and nut trees. That's it. We're just getting ready to start dinner. Tomorrow we will be somewhere in Oregon. We're still living in shorts (it's 80 here) but know that will likely change in the next couple of days. Wahhhhhhh! Till the next update........

Apr 10, 2013 - California

Hi y'all. Well, Moesy and I have had a couple of long driving days and have weathered the weather, so to speak! We went from Grants in New Mexico to Needles, CA yesterday. The wind was absolutely horrible....so I made Moe stop talking!!!! Whew! Anyway, we stayed at the Needles KOA - very nice - and decided to start off a bit later today....saw some beautiful country with lots of high altitude driving with long grades up and down. Went through Bakersfield - really lovely city-decided to scrub our adventure on the Big Sur and drive straight...

Apr 16, 2012 - The caravan moves on...

We slept longer than intended – 8am - but were ready to leave with the others about 10. The 2-hour trip was uneventful except for a “gray” road that Sharon questioned. Group decided to take it because it was shorter. Not bad, boring – some dust from old mud. We had a short 90 mile drive that was out through farms and dairies but we missed driving through the little town of Huron. We enjoy driving through little towns to get a better understanding of the area. This is a nice enough park. Sharon used the laundry and it took forever to get the...

Oct 4, 2011 - To Coalinga, CA

After much discussion and a look at the upcoming weather we decided to forgo the rest of our original plans for this summer trip and head to Lake Havasu. As much as we enjoy traveling we've run out of energy for now and look forward to getting "home" and staying put for the winter. Our first stop on the trip home is Coalinga, CA.

Going Down MC's-LANE

Apr 5, 2011 - One night in Coalinga California

Tom: Hi everyone. So Cal map at bottom of opening page. I added a few pics to our last Oregon House entry. 3 more at ther end. Stayed in Coalinga California today. I was trying to find a 1/2 way point between Sacramento and Palm Springs on I-5. Not only was this about 1/2 way, it was the only park. We visited w/ the Park Managers (Smitty and Ginger) for awhile and they told us that if reservations are not made you probably will not have a place to stay. They turn people away every night. Talk about taking advantage of all of the space...

Nov 18, 2010 - Coalinga to Las Vegas

Coalinga to Las Vegas We got an early start today, as we were hoping to get all the way to Las Vegas. This would put our arrival time a day earlier than expected, as we had travelled further on Tuesday than expected. This would also give us a little longer time in Vegas - not that we needed any more time to pay our Vegas taxes!!!! Today's drive was fairly non-eventful. Not too much to take pictures of either. If we had more time, it would have been fun to visit the Calico Ghost town, as we had stopped off nearby to get gas and make lunch....

Apr 11, 2009 - The Almond Tree RV Park in CA

We left Las Vegas right at 8:00am as planned this morning and pulled into the Almond Tree RV Park, about 150km north of Bakersfield, just after 2:00pm. We managed to make good time even though the traffic was very heavy on all of the freeways. Paulette and I were guessing that Easter is the reason for that – everyone seems in a big hurry to go somewhere. Other than stopping for diesel once, we pulled into a rest stop in the middle of the Mojave Desert - it's a pretty barren place. The Almond Tree is a very nice, comfortable RV park and is...

Jan 28, 2009 - Coalinga, CA

We arrived here after about 350 miles. We are staying at the Elks Lodge in town, they have 5 spaces out back with electric & water at each site. Not a very active lodge but very quiet. We just are staying at the coach and taking it easy, tomorrow we will be at Hazel's sister's house. We will be looking for the "Iron Zoo" on our way out of town tomorrow, and will post pictures there if we find it.

Mar 7, 2008 - San Joaquin Valley

We have left the LA area arriving near San Francisco. Spent one night on the road getting here at a place called Harris Ranch. A travel stop off of Interstate 5 which is a large hotel/restaurant and vehicle service center. Had lots of room for overnight staying with RV’s. Interstate 5 goes through the heart of Calif. farm country. Large orchard and dairy operations along the way. Many of the orchard fields were in spring bloom. By the way, the advertisements you see about Calif. dairy cows being “happy cows” and showing them on green...
