Aug 28, 2016 - End of the Mobile Trail

Chula Vista Elks, Chula Vista, CA Sunday, Aug 28, 1 pm PDT On Monday 8/15, I got the coach disconnected from power, water and sewer, and hooked up the car to the tow assembly. I had two problems before I could hit the road to Saint George UT. First I had no air in the inside driver’s side rear tire so I had to get the tire removed, tested for leaks and refilled at Ruby’s Auto Service Center in Bryce Canyon City. Second, I had to get the RV out of the Bryce Canyon Pines RV Park. I’d been sizing up the road between my site and the main exit...

Jul 8, 2016 - First stop, Chula Vista

We started our 2016 west coast RV trip Wednesday and arrived in Chula Vista at a park we have stayed at before. It is right on the coast with beach access and a nice cool breeze, in stark contrast to what we left in Chandler. There are some nice bike routes and Lexie thinks she is a little queen from her vantage point in the bike carrier she has. LOL We took the train to Seaport Village in San Diego which turned out to be an interesting adventure. Not really what we expected but still a fun time. Also took a trip up to La Jolla beach. It...

Apr 24, 2016 - Finally Back on the Road

Chula Vista Elks, Chula Vista CA Sunday, April 24 2016 2 pm PDT I’m getting ready to leave for Washington and the Rockies on Sunday May 1st. First stop is Santa Paula near Ventura north of Los Angeles, then Morgan Hill, Healdsburg, N California in the redwoods, and on to Oregon and Washington before heading southeast to Lake City Colorado, Bryce Canyon UT and back to Chula Vista via the Sierras in late September. I’ve planned a really full schedule covering close to 5000 miles and I’m determined to do it, despite leg weakness and poor...

Mar 15, 2016 - Chula Vista, California

Everyone made it back to the USA safe, one rig decided to go to Yuma and not go to Chula Vista. We did not take any pictures. We got into the forgot mode. Once there we had a pizza party, and in the morning we put on a light breakfast for everyone. Then we had our meeting with the Mark and Joani. That morning we drove back home.

Mar 6, 2016 - Chula Vista, California

Got my teeth fixed in San Diego. They had to do a root canal on one tooth, extract another, and then put in a bridge. The other tooth already had a crown. Total cost was about $2,000. I could have got this work done in Mexico for about $900 if I had been braver. Our Fantasy RV Tour of Whale Watching in Guerro Negro, Mexico met in Chula Vista. Susan and I were the tailgunner. Our wagon masters were Mark and Joani. They are very nice people and they were the best wagon masters we ever had.

Mar 3, 2016 - March Update

Chula Vista Elks, Chula Vista CA Thursday, March 3 1 PM HI! It’s been several months since I’ve sent out an update. The news is good on the rehabilitation front. The physical therapy showed me how to exercise to increase the strength of my bad left while reducing the pain. Six weeks ago I had a procedure called Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) injections done on my left knee, and that has been even more successful. PRP is not covered by insurance but has an excellent track record. The doctor takes several tubes of blood from the patient,...

Dec 25, 2015 - Christmas California style

Wow what a day. We had a completely different day for this Christmas. A late git up, with fresh croissants for brekkie, then off to the Zoo we went. San Diego zoo is world famous and now we know why. A monstrous complex with over 3500 animal species to see. First hour cruising around the park on a double decker with an animated driver to tell us what we were seeing. Park is walkable but not recommended. we planned our attack for the day using a provided map and away we went. We saw almost everything we wanted to see and then some. We spent...

Dec 21, 2015 - Chula Vista Rv Resort & Marina

Good evening all, after a hectic 2 hr drive from Fontana area to our final resting spot it looks like it will be definitely worth it all. We are parked right on the Pacific Ocean overlooking a marina. We are just down the coast about 3 miles from down town San Diego, the naval yard, North island air station and all the city has to offer. Plans are being made for the next 2 weeks of our stay already as we are parked across the street form a fellow employee of Arbutus RV small world eh. Took a few pixs of some flora and fauna here in the park...

Nov 24, 2015 - Thanksgiving Update

Chula Vista Elks, Chula Vista CA Tuesday, November 24 Happy Thanksgiving! It’s been a couple months since I’ve posted an entry because very little has happened. The only real news is that my physical therapy has increased the mobility and flexibility of my legs while reducing the pain in my knees and thighs. It turns out that my hips have turned out and my pelvis has partially fused, which results in misalignment of my legs for walking, standing or any upright exercise. This causes the pain in my legs, knees, and lower back. The physical...

Sep 15, 2015 - Medical and Electronic Ills Update

Chula Vista Elks, Chula Vista CA Tuesday, September 15 I finished my radiation therapy with no ill effects – no sunburn, redness or even fatigue. I’ve also seen a knee surgeon. He told me that my left knee wasn’t bad enough to warrant surgery. He gave me a cortisone shot and a prescription for physical therapy at his practice’s clinic in Chula Vista. I hope to start that next week. I successfully loaded my new laptop with all my software. I was able to access the backups made using Win 7 and get all my data, including all my music and my...

Aug 4, 2015 - Electrical and Electronic Melt-downs

Tuesday, August 4, 2015 10 am PDT I’m still in Chula Vista, and my cancer treatment is finally set. I didn’t get this information in full until July 31. Until then I didn’t know when or where the radiation would be done. I didn’t meet with the breast cancer oncologist, Dr. Jennifer Fisher, until nearly 6 weeks (!) after the surgery on June 17. My tumor was so small, with clean margins and no metastasis, so the oncology practice was not in a hurry to get me treated. The plan is radiation, followed by 5 years of estrogen suppressor pills....

Jun 18, 2015 - Quick Medical Update

Chula Vista Elks, 10 am PDT The tumor was removed from my left breast and the lymph nodes were negative. That's the best possible news. Moreover, I was not woozy or nauseous following surgery – not even sleepy. And the hospital was great and staff even better! I stayed up until 9-ish in my own motorhome and slept great. No pain – just a sting every once in a while if I reach with my left arm and it pulls on the stitches. So I’m not taking the pain killer pills they gave me. That means I can have vodka in my cocktail this evening. Last...
