Feb 4, 2016 - Yosemite National Park

Another easy 100 mile drive on Tuesday over some beautiful countryside. Coming through the mountains and descending into a valley, we had a really good look at a reservoir and a vivid example of the drought in this part of the world. The water level was at least 50 feet below the obvious normal level. We stayed in Chowchilla in a condo campground. The sites are privately owned, or for sale, and the management company rents out unoccupied sites with the site owner receiving a cut of the fee. This was a small but really nice place, but I'm...

Aug 22, 2015 - On the Road - Yet Again

After a wonderful visit with Wade, Sonya, and Elizabeth we were on the road again. Our stay in Roseville was a few days longer than planned due to some damage to the RV (either side swiped while parked on the street, or vandalism) and another repair - this time for the step motor. The highlight of our last few days was seeing Elizabeth off to school for her first day of 4th grade. We said our good byes at the fairgrounds on Friday night and hit the road early Saturday. We made a stop at the Lodi wine and visitor center for some wine...

May 24, 2012 - Chowchilla

Had a nice drive from Bakersfield to Chowchilla. The weather was in the low 70's but breezy. I am staying a The Lakes RV and Golf Resort which has to be one of the best RV parks in the US. The only problem is there is nothing in Chowchilla. Its claim to fame is the famous kidnapping of 30 some young children from their school bus many years ago. They were transported about a 100 miles and put in a buried trailer which they were ultimately able to escape from. The kidnappers were caught and given life terms where they remain in prison to this...

Nov 15, 2009 - Weekend in Chowchilla

Friday we moved south to Chowchilla for the weekend. We found a RV resort with a 18 hole golf course. They give 2 free golf rounds (nothing is free) each day or a 10% discount. We chose golf on Sunday at the adjoining course. This is a locked gated Park and they give you a clicker to get enter. Very nice park groomed like a gold course but not overly large spaces. Friday night we went to Fresno to take niece Tammy and Mike out to dinner and visit with them. Very nice evening and dinner at Marie Calendars. It was nice to catch up with them...

Nov 1, 2009 - The Lakes RV Resort in Chowchilla, CA

Today we stopped for the night at Chowchilla, California. We wanted to find a place close to Yosemite National Park. Lee found The Lakes RV Resort in the Good Sam's book and when we got there we were delighted. It is now our number 1 nicest place we've stayed. It was a bit on the expensive side but we really enjoyed it. The park has a golf course, pool, whirlpool and lovely flowers blooming everywhere. Although most of the lots are purchased, you can rent them also. The rent for a pull thru like the one we stayed in was $45 but we had a...

Dec 28, 2008 - Chowchilla, Calif.

Good to hear from you all!!! Glad we got to Redding and over the mountains last night. Truckers at rest stop said the pass was a mess. We finally found the sunshine! Not to many choices of where to stay between Redding and Bakersfield. Decided to spend the extra cash and stay at a The Lakes RV and Golf Resort, a really fancy place in Chowchilla, CA. Worth the extra money and we are surrounded by DUCK fans on their way to the game in San Diego. Go DUCKS!Everywhere we look, fellow Oregonians. Feels good, and safe. Lucy is doing well, although...
