Sep 5, 2013 - Route 66, California, USA

This is the first picture that was taken from me, the same afternoon that I left California on my very first trip on Route 66 Toward New Mexico. It was a sunny and hot afternoon and I got off the car and my boyfriend took this picture of me. Shortly after the picture was taken, there was a sand storm! This was the first time in my life that I saw a sand storm. It was scary and fascinating at the same time. We drove through the sand storm and headed out way into Arizona, on historic Route 66. It was a wonderful day.

Apr 8, 2013 - Colorado River-Ehrenburg,AZ

Well, we are now at the Colorado River Oasis in Ehrenberg,AZ. We are parked overlooking the river. Julie is walking a little better now so we went into Quartzsite to look at the few remaining vendors while the guys were fishing. They caught a bunch of nice Sunfish so we had a yummy fish fry. Julie and I have been to the pool a few times. She is not able to go into the water yet but I went in and did my water exercise routine. One day we took a trip to the Cibola Wildlife refuge; a nice drive but disappointing as all the waterfowl had left...

Jan 18, 2013 - Blythe, CA

We dry camped at the Blythe Bluegrass Festival. We went in 4 days early. Going in early got us a spot right next to the stage, a fireplace and all the wood we could use. Murray and Shelle came in early with us, with Jim and Jeannette, Mike and Sally, and George and Nancy coming in on Wednesday. The weather turned out to be really nice for the festival and the line up was good and we thoroughly enjoyed the music. I had to have one of my generators service because I could not start it. We also got the chance to buy grapefruit at 8 for a...

Nov 6, 2012 - Oceanside, Ca Nov 1 - 6, 2012

Well, it’s been a long, long week. I caught a doozy of a cold and was flat out for 6 days. Turkey did everything he could think of to stave off the virus, including copious amounts of garlic and rum (not together, but I’m sure they all ended up in the same place, lol) So, walks down to the ocean and the pier, the swimming pool, hot tub and exercise room were about as far as we wandered. Turkey tried his luck at surfing again, while I watched from the pier. Oceanside holds a flea market every Thursday, so we were able to “shop” last...

Oct 31, 2012 - Oceanside, California

Happy Halloween everyone!! Today, we were enroute to Oceanside, California. We secured a condo for the month of November at North Coast Village, right on the ocean. We stayed here 2 years ago, and were fortunate enough to find a vacancy again this year. We arrived just before 3 pm, and checked into our condo. The balcony faces South, and overlooks the Pacific Ocean. It was a little foggy out when we arrived. We worked for about an hour on getting the internet hooked up, and then left to get some groceries. It was just getting dark when we...

Oct 30, 2012 - Mesa - Apache Junction - Blythe, California

After a quick breakfast at the hotel, we caught the shuttle over to our storage unit to pick up our bikes. (Thankfully, it was only a 4 mile trip). After bringing our bikes back to the hotel, we loaded up our gear, and headed out to Apache Junction, where the Manitoba crew we met up with in Vegas were staying. We stopped for a quick coffee at Marty and Murray’s home, before heading down the highway on I-10. We arrived in Blythe California around 4 pm, and called it a day!

Apr 13, 2012 - Day 2 in the Rain

4/13/2012 I talked to Mom this morning, apparently we missed all the fun at home, it thundered and lightning most of the night with over an inch of rain (very unusual for our area). We may get all of our rainfall yet this year! By the time we got up and had breakfast, it had quit raining, at least for the time being. We were able to unhook and get on the road without getting wet. We did run into quite a bit of rain on and off for most of the day. The closer we got to Blythe, the less it rained, until it eventually fizzled out all together....

Feb 29, 2012 - Colorado River - Blythe

Blythe is on the Colorado River South of Lake Havasu. The water is so clear....no wonder California wants it all. We stayed at the KOA just off of I-10. The park was nice, and right on the river. The people were very friendly. We went to Quartzite to see what the "draw" is for massive desert camping. Frankly, the town is dirty, and the desert camping areas are nothing special. We did not get there in time for the big congregation, but would not really want to be there, after seeing it. Great for boondockers, ATV people, and others that...

Feb 28, 2012 - Salton Sea to Colorado River Oasis, AZ

Friday, February 17, 2012 - Salton Sea to Colorado River Oasis Resort, AZ I awoke to a clear, sunny morning, with almost no wind at my site, but I can still see some small wave action on the lake, which is usually flat and calm. I will be traveling from Salton Sea to the Colorado River, on the Arizona side. I had planned on staying at one of my resorts for a week, but it is a popular resort and I could only get three days there. I headed up to connect to I-10 and went east to Arizona, crossing over the Colorado River and taking the first...

Feb 19, 2012 - Change of Plans

February 1-16 We are in Rancho Ventana RV Park in Blythe, CA for 2 months, or so we thought. We specifically asked our landlords (the folks renting their extra lot to us) if having a screened tent was allowable. Yes, was the answer, however, no one asked the architectural committee if it was okay. Well, after much discussion, turns out it’s only OK if we don’t have a floor in it. We do have a floor in it. So the tent came down. We are not happy because the tent affords us a lot of extra room and shade. Our landlords are very nice people...

Feb 19, 2012 - Road Trip To Lake Havasu

February 18 We head north on the CA side of the Colorado River en route to Lake Havasu on the other side of the river in AZ, about 80 miles from Blythe. We first stop for more grapefruit and oranges (25 cents a piece) at a little farm not far from us. They also have geese and goats (baby goat for $75, but we didn’t think Zeus would like a brother and, besides, no room in the Scamp). It is a wonderful place surrounded by the orchards and nice palm and shade trees. Fun music plays in the yard as you pick out your fruit and pay on the honor...

Feb 5, 2012 - Week 8-Phoenix to California

Mon Jan 30 Great scenery and weather greets us on our westward trek into Phoenix. We stop at a nice RV park with all the amenities—except electricity. For the second time this winter, we get an electrical box with issues. Of course, these issues present themselves after the office is closed. The kindly Canadian gentleman who is our neighbor (with a Siberian husky who is infatuated with Zeus), lets us hook up to his electrical box. Tuesday Jan 31 We play golf with Barb Webb and Pat Brink at a very nice course close to where they are staying...
