Oct 15, 2016 - Bakersfield CA

Frank went off to see some drag races today, and I opted out and stayed behind to do laundry, and enjoyed some down time on my own. It was another hot and sunny day, but cooled down around 5 ish. Just looked outside, and there's a full moon ! Not much to say but was a great day. Lots of people parking for the night, heading south already, I would say I saw 5 units from BC alone. Good night !

Oct 14, 2016 - Bakersfield CA

Today we enjoyed time out shopping at the Outlets at Tejon , just south of Bakersfield. I have a very patient husband as he let me go in and out of most of the stores. A bonus for him was sunshine outside while he waited.. We stopped a a few other places before ending our day with supper at a restaurant we went to back in Jan. called The Crest Bar and Grill.( it was at the Bakersfield RV Resort.) We wanted to indulge in the coconut shrimp we so loved back then. And yes, they were just as we remembered. Now back at the Site, catching up on...

Oct 13, 2016 - Bakersfield CA

Go figure I could only sleep in until 7:30 this morning. I gave Frank another hr. Enjoyed a coffee outside in the sunshine and knowing we were staying here for a while helped the relax mode. We had some cloud and sun all day, and mid afternoon, I jumped in the pool ( all to myself) and then took in more sun on the lounge chair. We also got the bikes off, and I toured around the park , Frank rode down and met me at the pool! I can't believe all the orange trees. In this site., too bad they won't be ready until Dec. Tomorrow we will go...

Oct 12, 2016 - Bakersfield ,CA

The last couple of days we lost a few hrs, so our body clocks are messed up . We now have time to adjust because we are same time as home. As we journey towards home, Frank and I decided to stay here in Bakersfield for a week. A nice little relax / warm sunny holiday. It has been go go go and seeing so many different sights, and not to mention, the weather at home s kinda rainy, we will stay put in one place. There are a few things to see around here, possibly some local drag racing this weekend, and a pool to chill by. The RV Park we are...

Bakersfield Day 111: Tuesday September 6, 2016 We pulled out at 8:05 am and encountered our first delay: The gate into the park was open for inbound traffic and it was located near our trailer site; the turn was to tight and the trailer hit a fence post—no serious damage to the post or the trailer as Brian was going very slow; he was watching the front of the truck and the main gate when we hit. The park host came over and reviewed the damage—he had to make a report. We authorized the park to replace the post at our cost if management...

May 31, 2016 - Crest Drive In

As expected the week-end was very low key and uneventful. We did however find out some interesting facts about the Bakersfield RV Resort and its restaurant the Crest Bar & Grill. It turns out this used to be the Crest Drive-In where patrons in Bakersfield came to enjoy two drive-in movie screens. As almost all drive-in movies go, this one succumbed in the 1997 and was dismantled in 2003 to the dismay of local citizens. Along came new owners with a new concept for the land...aka Bakersfield RV Resort. The snack bar was repurposed into a...

May 29, 2016 - Bakersfield RV

After spending Friday in Acton resting and cleaning up and so forth, we drove to Bakersfield on Saturday. Why Bakersfield? Basically because it's Memorial Day weekend and anything on the coast or near San Francisco was booked. There are three very nice parks in Bakersfield. We are staying at the Bakersfield RV Resort and boy does it live up to its name. This place is gorgeous...beautiful entry, large swimming pool and spa, even a massage room. Nice level lots and strong Wi-Fi. Of course it doesn't hurt to be next to a Wi-Fi tower. What we...

May 22, 2016 - Through the Mojave

Sure enough, birds woke me again at 5. I don’t normally like the transition back and forth between daylight savings time and standard time but Arizona has taught me to appreciate summer sunrises being later than 5 am. I was on my way before 5:30, grateful for the fairly hot coffee in my thermos. Today was a long driving day, not only because I put in 500 miles but also because once I crossed into California, the speed limit for anyone towing dropped to 55 mph. I sometimes drive that speed to conserve fuel but if there is any place it would...

Apr 22, 2016 - Heading home....

Yes, we are finally on our way home to Washington. I think our fun meters are finally pegged. (Except for Fred of course. That bird is always eager to party. This time Spike tie wrapped him to the picnic table so he couldn't get into any trouble!) We got underway this morning at 0830, as the news & weather channels said it was going to be windy today. Spike was able to route us away from the LA basin, which is a good thing. We went in the direction of Riverside and it seemed like we were going through towns for hours. Three hours to be...

Apr 3, 2016 - Bakersfield, CA

Two days after we got the dish fixed we were off for the year and we drove to Bakersfield to meet others for a Jazz Festival in Three Rivers, CA. We met Stacy, Sharron, Shelly, and Murray, as well as another couple. Upon arrival the dish would not work, the television would not work and the computer would not work. After about 1.5 hours of swearing and rebooting everything for the 9th time everything started working. We had happy hour with everybody. OK, now I am calm again and ready to start enjoying life again. I pray to God that he helps...

Apr 1, 2016 - Leaving Baks

Leaving Bakersfield today. Got ready to go and big slide would not go in. Took the rear slide motor out, made a few adjustments, put the motor back in and, what do you know, now it's working. Got a late start on our trip, but thanks to God we got on our way.

Mar 28, 2016 - Bakersfield, CA

Left Desert Hot Springs and drove northwest to Bakersfield, approx. 200 miles heading back to SF. Al had a difficult 20 mile drive with the high gusty winds until we got out Desert Hot Springs and the wind tunnel there. We arrived at the Bakersfield River Run RV Park around 2:30 pm. This was the same park we stopped at when we bought the motorhome and headed to Josie’s to stock it 2 years ago. The RV park is well maintained and very near hotels and restaurants. We stopped in again at Black Angus for dinner. Overall, a very enjoyable meal.
