Apr 9, 2017 - Bakersfield, CA

We had quite a long drive today, about 300 miles. Most of the drive was through the Mojave Desert area, we saw a lot of sagebrush and desert plants. We stopped for gas at Whiskey Pete's, our last stop in Nevada before crossing the California line. We also had to stop for an agriculture check, we tossed out the last two tomatoes we had that were from Mexico, we passed through without an inspection. You have to be very careful with these agricultural checkpoints, if you forget a fruit or vegetable, you can be fined a huge price. This happened...

Evening all. Well after an additional week at FOY, it was time to start the trek for home after a most enjoyable winter in the desert and sunshine. Bit of a long drive today to get us away from LA and the traffic. Made it ok but daily drives now will be much shorter and manageable. A real treat to see real grass again and to feel a bit of crispness in the breeze. Got some neat pixs of the wild flowers blooming in the pass N of LA today. Met our new neighbors tonite again nice people on the move like us. Not much else folks enjoying the day...

Feb 27, 2017 - Off to Bakersfield

Feb 27, 2017 another beautiful day, but it did rain last night so I go and dry off the car. My head has been stuffed up with a sinus infection for over a month and then David mowed the yard and my allergies kicked in. I am sneezing and blowing constantly. We are spending the night in Bakersfield at the Country RV Park. It is beautiful, level paved full thrus. It is a Good Sam Park and the price is $36. Close to the highway but quiet.

Jan 12, 2017 - Bakersfield, Oranges and Sunshine...sort of!

We drove another long day, this time about 7 hours, and made it to Bakersfield CA. And we found SUNSHINE!!!! The temp was up to 60, the sun was shining. Mike put on the first pair of shorts since about July and was happy! I think the sun re-charged all of us a little. It was great to see it. In Bakersfield, we stayed at the Orange Grove RV Park. It is literally in an orange grove. We pick oranges right outside our door. The oranges are sweet and in season. So yummy! All campers are encouraged to pick a bag full to take with them on their...

Jan 4, 2017 - Almost a normal day

Oh what a relief it was to not have furnace going last nite. Great sleep, nice 9am departure and only had light mist for an hour. Road was flat and smooth, miles and miles of orchards and vineyards, was a pleasant day to be on the road. then we hit a rest stop south of Patterson for a bite of breakfast and it happened. I was outside the rig having a smoke when this young lady comes running over from the tractor trailer 2 spaces over and looks rather distraught. she wanted me to call the police as she had just been assaulted. crap I say, so...

Oct 17, 2016 - Bakersfield CA

Well, after I made my post last night, we headed to bed, and guess what they were still there! I never saw the ants in our bed room earlier, but they sure were there then. I wish I never saw movies about ants and spiders, and flies, because I had visions of getting eaten alive in my sleep. It took me a while to clear them out, put out the baking soda, and more traps, and try and crawl into bed and sleep, really!!!! Frank tried his best to comfort me, and took me a while to settle down. I slept with one eye open, and was so unsettled, I felt...

So where there are orange trees, and it's hot, come little aunts,, sugar ants to be exact! They were coming out everywhere. I quickly googled how to get rid of them, and what I had didn't work so well. I vacuumed , and swept as well. and so we decided to run to a hardware store and get some ant killer. They have been contained, but I keep getting the feeling they are crawling all over me. Let's hope tomorrow , they have disappeared . We have a few more days here, looking forward to contued sun and heat.

Frank went off to see some drag races today, and I opted out and stayed behind to do laundry, and enjoyed some down time on my own. It was another hot and sunny day, but cooled down around 5 ish. Just looked outside, and there's a full moon ! Not much to say but was a great day. Lots of people parking for the night, heading south already, I would say I saw 5 units from BC alone. Good night !

Oct 14, 2016 - Bakersfield CA

Today we enjoyed time out shopping at the Outlets at Tejon , just south of Bakersfield. I have a very patient husband as he let me go in and out of most of the stores. A bonus for him was sunshine outside while he waited.. We stopped a a few other places before ending our day with supper at a restaurant we went to back in Jan. called The Crest Bar and Grill.( it was at the Bakersfield RV Resort.) We wanted to indulge in the coconut shrimp we so loved back then. And yes, they were just as we remembered. Now back at the Site, catching up on...

Oct 13, 2016 - Bakersfield CA

Go figure I could only sleep in until 7:30 this morning. I gave Frank another hr. Enjoyed a coffee outside in the sunshine and knowing we were staying here for a while helped the relax mode. We had some cloud and sun all day, and mid afternoon, I jumped in the pool ( all to myself) and then took in more sun on the lounge chair. We also got the bikes off, and I toured around the park , Frank rode down and met me at the pool! I can't believe all the orange trees. In this site., too bad they won't be ready until Dec. Tomorrow we will go...

The last couple of days we lost a few hrs, so our body clocks are messed up . We now have time to adjust because we are same time as home. As we journey towards home, Frank and I decided to stay here in Bakersfield for a week. A nice little relax / warm sunny holiday. It has been go go go and seeing so many different sights, and not to mention, the weather at home s kinda rainy, we will stay put in one place. There are a few things to see around here, possibly some local drag racing this weekend, and a pool to chill by. The RV Park we are...
