Rain had stopped overnight and it was a beautiful, sunny morning if a bit on the cool side. Our trip up to the Grand Canyon Visitor’s Center was about 30 minutes. We arrived around 9:15. Original plan was to hike the Rim Trail from Hermit’s Rest to Grand Canyon Village a distance of about 8 miles. When we stopped at the visitor’s center the ranger made other suggestions. Oct 11, 2018 - Hoover Dam

Hoover Dam was only about 45 minutes from the hotel. We arrived about 10:15. We stood in line for about an hour to take a power plant tour. This was interesting but only lasted about 20 minutes. You basically take an elevator down into the dam and take a look at the turbines from an observation deck. Next we watched a 15 minute presentation on a topographical map that showed how the dam systems work in the southwest to provide water and electrical power primarily to southern California. Oct 2, 2014 - Valle AZ – Bedrock City – Flintstone’s Campground

Today we toured the South Rim of the Grand Canyon – or at least we toured what we could. Unlike the north rim, the south rim is packed with tourists and parking is even worse than at Zion National Park. We had Bridget with us, so we couldn’t get on the shuttle buses and, like Zion, most of the roads were closed to all traffic except the shuttles. I don’t think it mattered anyway.
