Mar 16, 2019 - Hello Tucson

We left Deming NM in a blinding snowstorm. Enough of this weather already. It did improve as we got closer to Tucson but the winds kept howling. Arrived at the Pima County Fairgrounds for the Escapees Escapade59 Rally. We were assigned to a great spot right next to the buildings where all the events will be held. Parking on a polo field with lots of grass for Billy to roll around on and no tracking dirt into the rv.. We also have hookups for electric and water. A lot of others are on dirt with no hookups and long walks to events although...

Feb 14, 2019 - Happy Valentine's Day!!!!

Hello, We know it has been awhile since our last post but we have been in Tucson living a semi-ordinary life. Maybe we are learning a new feature of life on the road. We don’t always have to be moving. We are even in the process of buying a house. We are at the negotiation stage after a home inspection so it may not go through. We are not planning on living here full time but would like to have something permanent. It is in the middle of the city and has an RV pad. Our next stop is Camp Verde near Sedona where we will volunteer for 3 or 4...

Feb 11, 2019 - Tucson - Voyager

After our 3-week boondocking experience in Quartzsite, we headed south to the city of Tucson and back to civilization! Last year we spent 10 days at the Voyager RV Resort and made plans to come back for a month before we left. Voyager is a HUGE RV resort community on the eastern side of Tucson, just south of I-10. The resort has every kind of activity you can imagine and caters to seniors, 55+ (a category which we fall comfortably into...). We got settled into spot 7-182 which is an extra-long pull-through site which gives us plenty of...

2019 Life in our RV

Jan 26, 2019 - My 13th Day off Schedule

Jerry, my contact at Watson Chevrolet, called me Thursday morning at 8:30 and said they'd probably have the job done in 3 1/2 to 4 hours. Turned out to be longer. The Uber lady picked me up at the South Forty RV Ranch at 2:51 and took me to Watson. I know the exact time because I left my iphone in her car and, well, that's another story. I picked up the truck. They had replaced some of the gaskets that deteriorate over time (not head gasket type gaskets) that had allowed coolant to leak onto the cooler. They pressure checked and found no...

Jan 24, 2019 - One More Unplanned Stop

On my last day in Deming, NM, I did my laundry. One could spend an hour in that building just reading all the information tacked to the walls. I had seen something in the air while photographing on my first day out at the rocks, zoomed for a closer look and then just basically forgot about it. Lots of info about the thing in the sky, though, in the laundry room! It's it the photos. The weather was perfect when I left Deming at 8:43 am Tuesday morning full of confidence so you can imagine the sickening feeling when 160 miles out the Low...

Jan 23, 2019 - Onward to Tucson

1-23 Up and out at 8:30 to tour the fine town of Kingman...on famous Route 66! Guide to Famous Kingman 1-24/25 Out and about the town of Tucson... 1-26 Visit to the Sign Art Museum and hike thru Sabino Canyon Recreation Area...plus more good food! --- Tourism (as in our new view of Tucson and Kingman) is in a sense repurposing things which might have been torn down or wasted resources. Recreation areas and public parks are also a form of repurposing. But to turn them into commercial ventures by private individuals/corporations is to...

Jan 1, 2019 - Tucson & Jeff's

Happy New Year friends. We miss each and every one of you. We had a safe crossing with one big scare. We forgot the old adage that when traveling through the State of Texas, make sure you fill your tank with gas when it is below one half, especially in a gas guzzling RV. We passed through a small town that had expensive gas and thought we would be ok until the next town. As soon as we turned onto a two lane road where there was no place to turn around, I remembered that Jocelyn had been there before and there wasn’t gas for 100 miles. Well,...

Dec 20, 2018 - Catalina State Park (12/17 - 12/20/18)

Catalina is another one of our favorite parks. We love the surrounding Sonoran Desert and all of the amazing Saguaro cactus. The park is also full of miniature prairie dogs. The last time we stayed here, we had to move once because it is such a popular park and it was full. It was full this time, as well, but we were able to stay in our site, B26, for the whole stay. We were just a short walk from the bath/shower house and we took full advantage of it. We could look out and see the mountains, Mt. Lemmon being quite prominent. The only thing...

Dec 18, 2018 - Final stop: Tucson AZ

Hello to Olivia's Friends in Ms. Wishart's Class!!!! Well I finally traveled through New Mexico and into Arizona to my destination: Saguaro National Park along the Mexico and US border!!!! It is beautiful here in the desert. This is the only area in the world where these beautiful, majestic Saguaro cactus grow. Ask Ms. Wishart to show you more pictures of the Saguaro cactus. It's been a fun trip, and thanks for traveling along with me. Adios amigos!!!!

Dec 18, 2018 - Arizona...home for the next 90+ days

Monday was a slow day. We needed a rest day after two days of hard driving and Monday was that day. We got out to go to JoAnn's for a few minutes. Sue has a project in mind so she needed a scouting trip. Then is was off to La Posta to meet our new friends Gary and Barb for a late lunch. We arrived and again were fascinated by the parrots. I did not take any new pictures as I posted some back in January when we ate here before. We had a nice leisurely lunch and enjoyed our new friends. They are leaving tomorrow like us and going to Tucson....

Dec 1, 2018 - Revitalization and Gentrification

We are now in Tucson for a break from our stay in Benson. We’re staying at an RV park about two miles from downtown in a neighborhood called Menlo Park. I would consider the neighborhood to be a lower income area. The houses are a mixed bag. Some of them are well kept while others could, to put it politely, use a little work. At some point in the city’s history, a huge tract of land near this neighborhood called “The Mercado” was leveled to rid the area of its severe urban blight. The land stayed vacant – until recently. Now “The Mercado”...
