Nov 24, 2011 - Giving thanks in Suprise

Giving Thanks In Surprise Here we are again, one year later, in Happy Trails. What a great and wonderful year it has been. We have had much to be thankful for in our travels this season. We truly have a blessed life. I am thankful for my wonderful wife, Nancy, first and foremost We are thankful for our continued good health We are thankful for the power of the ‘Rocketeer’ and the comfort of ‘the Neighborhood’ as they transport us down the road of discovery. We are thankful for all our friends we have visited this year, and the ones still to...

Nov 23, 2011 - Tennis Anyone?

Tennis Anyone? On our second Saturday at Happy Trails we attended the official first meeting of the tennis club. We were introduced and accepted into the club. We met a bunch of people with little or no chance of remembering all the names. I was asked if I wanted to join the men’s league team. Nancy was the first one of us to play doubles in our new club. She played with the ladies doubles. They had seen her play when we did our tennis workouts and had a pretty good idea about her abilities. They have wanted her on their team since last...

Nov 8, 2011 - Surprise, AZ - Travel Day

(Ron Writing) We had planned to leave Tucson yesterday morning but when we awoke it was raining. We decided to just spend the day there rather than drive in the rain. We had a relaxing day at home and by early afternoon the rain stopped and it was mostly sunny the rest of the day. This morning we left Tucson under clear skies and there was no wind. We drove west on I-10 to the Phoenix arriving mid afternoon. The rest of the afternoon was spent shopping. We are spending the night parked at WalMart in Surprise, AZ. Weather: Overnight low was...

Nov 1, 2011 - Surprise Landing

Surprise Landing We got up early on Tuesday morning. We were both eager to get to our winter quarters at Happy Trails in Surprise. We spent last November here and had a blast using the tennis courts, pools, ping pong, weight room, and being able to use our bikes for just about all errands. I was going to take us through Gila Bend, using the I-8, but at the last moment we took the shortest path and went through the heart of Phoenix. Thanks to light mid day traffic we sailed through the metro area and arrived safely at Happy Trails after...

Sep 28, 2011 - Surprise, AZ

Today I drove 248 milesto a suburb of Phoenix called Surprise. My college roommate and her husband live there. It was so good to see them. It had been a long time. They had spent the summer at Yellowstone park working at a store. They enjoyed it so much that they plan on going back next year. I had lunch at their home and then I left for Tucson. I arrived in Tucson at 4:30.

May 21, 2011 - Day 1. Flying....

What a loooooong day it has been!!!! I was supposed to get up by 6:30am so we could be at the airport earlier enough for me to get settled, and mom comes up to my room at 7:46am and I’m still in bed haha oops! So I rush to get a shower and what not and decide to do my makeup on the way to save time. We get rolling about 8:40 headed towards Birmingham. After we stop and get breakfast in Cullman, we see ahead that there is a 2 mile traffic back up on the interstate so we decide to try and find HWY 31 to get around it. We found it, it just...

May 1, 2011 - Month of April in Happy Trails

Wow! What a month. Golfed, walked in the sunshine every day, went to movies, dinner with friends and attended a few more block parties. Of course, we had to try our putting skills at a couple of miniature courses and did a little shopping for cooler clothes as the temperature to rise into the high 90’s. It was just a Ho-Hum month in the sun. ;-)

Apr 28, 2011 - Trip to big city

We have a tentative leave date of May 12 so everything is moving toward that date. We are making some improvements in the MH, cleaning/organizing sheds and figuring out what to take and what to leave. The most excitement this week was when one of our neighbors was bit by a snake. It was a Western Rattler about 5 inches long. He was such a baby that he only had one rattle so couldn't make any noise. Neighbor 1 was talking to neighbor 2 over the fence. Baby Rattler was lying in the shade and took offense at the invasion of his space. Looks...

Winter 2010 - 2011

Apr 2, 2011 - What a Kick!

April 1 2011 Kelly and I were invited to a block party (the section we are located) to celebrate April 1, Fool’s Day. They blocked off the streets, had a live band playing 40’s music, danced in the street (yes, Kelly and I participated), a potluck, karaoke, visiting with friends (everyone brought their lawn chairs), Over all a fun time. There must have been 100+ people enjoying the evening. The golf carts were everywhere, what a sight to see. The temperature over 100 degree, record high for the day, didn’t seem to stop anyone from coming.

Mar 31, 2011 - Still at Happy Trails

The first couple of weeks at Happy Trails, saw Kelly and me a bit under the weather with sinus problems. The pollen in Surprise is bad. Worst then being in the Willamette Valley! Pollen alerts everyday on the TV. Kelly has been playing golf 2 - 3 days a week, I occasionally play, though mostly walking the golf course while Kelly hits the ball. Have done some sightseeing, AZ State Capitol, Queen Creek Oil Farm to see how olive oil was made. Didn't know that the whole olive including pit went into making the oil. Da, Blonde moment. They had...

Mar 1, 2011 - It must be Happy Trails

March, It must be Happy Trails. Arrived early on March 1, were hooked up and ready to receive guests by 2:30pm. And, boy, did we receive guests. We had neighbors come by even as Kelly was parking the coach. After the slides were out and everything was in place, our new friends from down the street came by, then 2 sets of friends from the housing development next door came by to visit. We had 7 people sitting comfortably in our home on wheels with room for more. We couldn’t have done that in our old RV, or even in our home with a...

Jan 19, 2011 - Surprise Goodbye

We have been in Surprise, AZ for the last few days visiting with good friends and Chaplains we worked with while at Estes Park YMCA. It is good to refresh, renew and recharge friendships that mean so much to each couple. Part of God's joy we can experience in our lives is the understanding that friendships we make here on earth will be with us in Heaven. This is a gift from God, a present for the present with memories that will continue into eternity. Dave and Syb are such a couple, good friends, co-workers, commuted Christians and...
