Jan 22, 2020 - Soccer

Surprise, AZ It was a rather laid-back family day. Sawyer, still sick, instructed Sandi in the fine art of paper airplanes. So many decisions! Did we want and indoor or an outdoor plane? Should it be the original or upgrade 1 or upgrade 2? Then it was necessary to test the planes. Were they high loopers or low loopers? How were they for distance? Should we add weights or leave them as they were? Sawyer was a very good teacher who takes his planes seriously. When Sandi's did not fly as well as his, he offered to switch. It immediately became...

Jan 21, 2020 - Phoenix Zoo

Surprise, AZ We arrived at Surprise, Arizona at our sister-in-laws's house in time for lunch. We went to a Vietnamese restaurant. Jim is a meat and potatoes man and tries to avoid anything he cannot recognize. To his shock, he had some really good food! Sawyer (age 8) was sick today so we scrapped our plans for a hike, grabbed the wagon, bundled up Sawyer and headed to the zoo. The Phoenix Zoo opened in 1962 and is the largest privately owned, non-profit zoo in the United States. Located in Phoenix, Arizona, the zoo was founded by Robert...

May 1, 2019 - Sunflower RV Resort (4/23 - 4/29/19)

This is our free week for staying at Fortuna De Oro for 3 months. We were in site 1118 which is a group of sites in the back of the park for 'transient' RVs. It is a very clean and pretty park, but has mostly park models. It has all the amenities, but isn't as 'cozy' as we found the park in Yuma. Being on the outskirts of Phoenix, there was much more traffic, too. We had everything we needed within a 5 mile radius. It was just fine. One difference here is that the desert is a bit further away! You have a drive to get to the desert before...

Jun 3, 2018 - Spring Training in Surprise, AZ

I can’t remember if I wrote about getting an email from HP about my computer purchase and delivery. The only problem is, I hadn’t ordered a computer from HP recently. I checked my account at HP.com and saw a delivery address that I never added nicknamed “Dad’s” and a credit card number (the last four digits) that I also did not recognize. I was able to contact my financial institution and they advised me that those four digits had never been one of my debit cards. I also checked my account and there was no deduction for a computer purchase....

Apr 9, 2018 - North from Tucson!

Today Emily and I packed up at Jeff’s and began traveling north. Had some RV work done first at a great place in Tucson called Freedom RV, so only had time to make it a bit north of Phoenix tonight. Emily found this RV park in one of her books, so while traveling north on I-10 she called and booked us for two nights sight unseen. I asked her how much it cost per night and she said she forgot to ask. Oh oh! We arrived a bit after 6pm and can report it is an RV resort. Yes, a real resort. 1,139 sites!!! As of the time of this posting, we...

One Day @ a Time

Apr 2, 2018 - Goodbye Surprise

Someone asked me the other day what we have been doing to keep us busy and I replied, we’ve been to the Emergency Room, Urgent Care, doctor appointments, lab appointments, dentist and had a 2 hour health assessment. Oh yeah, in between there has been pickleball, tennis, cards and games, visits with family and friends, dinners out with friends, dinners in with friends, lots of reading and relaxing, church, movies, happy hours, golfing and howling at the moon. It has taken a long time but the swelling in Ed’s knee has finally been reduced...

Feb 27, 2018 - Show Low to Surprise, AZ

2-27-18 Show Low to Surprise, AZ We got up to a cold breezy morning in Show Low. The temperatures were just below freezing. We were in no hurry to get on the road this morning since we didn’t have far to go today. We had a nice breakfast at the Days Inn cafe which was much better than the average “free” breakfast most hotels offer these days. After breakfast we got gas and coffee and were rolling by 10AM. We took Arizona HWY 260 from Show Low to Payson then caught HWY 87 through the Apache Sitgreaves National Forest into the Phoenix basin...

Feb 20, 2018 - Surprises in Surprise

A lot has happened in the 3 weeks since I last updated. First, Ed had a bad bicycle accident and injured his leg and that has laid him up all these weeks. He was riding with the bike club and was riding too close to the cyclist in front of him and in order to avoid crashing into him, he swerved into the curb and took a nasty fall. Fortunately, an ambulance happened to be driving by and saw his fall so did a u-turn with siren and lights flashing and patched him up. He continued to ride the 6 miles back home but I don’t know how he did that....

Jan 30, 2018 - Surprise!

We made it to Sunflower RV Resort in Surprise, Arizona with an overnight stop to one of our favorite places to camp, Quartzsite, Arizona. We were there a week before the big RV show so the desert was not as crowded as it is in late January. We just love being there and having a campfire and watching the sunset and see the stars come out. It is very peaceful and we love the mountains all around us. We only stayed one night which means we want to get back there again whenever we can. From the quiet of the desert to the hustle, bustle of metro...

Mar 30, 2017 - Happy Trails for Us

On March 30, we left Mesa to go to Happy Trails Resort and test whether the RV would fit. I think I said we purchased the place while at Mesa. We really didn't pay the money until we squweeezed our RV in to spot for it. It was very tight, but we got in and were good to go. If you are interested, you can check out the website. http://www.happytrailsresort.info We are excited about all the available amenities. The lapidary and jewelry making classes are particularly interesting to me. And of course, the quilting. And I have bought a long arm...

Mar 24, 2017 - Ups and Downs

We have physically been up to the mountain tops and down in the deepest valley (Death Valley) in North American. We have also experienced life’s highs and lows, ups and downs during our stay here at Sunflower RV Resort in Surprise, Arizona. I know our highs are not as great as others and our lows are no where near as low as others. But nevertheless, we have experienced a few bumps in the road this winter. Our car finally got fixed from our accident in August in Washington State. It took us long enough to get it fixed but we were satisfied...

Feb 19, 2017 - Fun at Sunflower

We had moved so much and saw so much in the first 5 months of this year’s journey, that we were looking forward to sitting still for a while. We have been sitting still at Sunflower RV Resort in Surprise, AZ for 1 ½ months now and it does feel good. We have managed to keep busy with all the activities available here. Ed has been playing pickleball almost every day, rides 20 miles with the Bike Club on Mondays and sometimes Fridays, and is golfing at least once a week. I have kept a lower profile and although we both play cribbage with a...
