Sep 20, 2019 - The Sonoran Desert - Phoenix

Up this morning and ready to go! The plan today is to drive to Phoenix which is a 2 1/2 hr trip down I17. Leaving a little late, no time for breakfast, we stopped at Denny’s for lunch. Back in the car traveling S on I17 as we approached Phoenix we took exit 222 looking for The Sonoran Desert to take a hike. At Apache Wash Trailhead we decided on The Sidewinder Trail. Checking the temperature posted it said 101 degrees so decided to take only a 20 min hike up and 20 min back taking a lot of cactus and desert photos. We loaded up on water...

Sep 17, 2019 - Phoenix to Sedona

The hotel shuttle service took me this morning back to the airport where I met up with Julie and Susan in the American Airline baggage claim at 6am. They were flying in from their trip to Hawaii. We got a rental car and headed out of the big city on I17 to Sedona where we are spending the night at the Hampton Inn. On our way we stopped at various places Denny’s for breakfast, then at exit 252 Sunset Point Rest Area we viewed the beautiful mountains and rock formations taking plenty of photos. Getting off the interstate we took Hwy 169 to N...

Jun 15, 2019 - More News!

Like I stated on a Facebook posting, the end of an era has come. On our next to last day at the rig we had the carpets cleaned. We were at our neighbors, Sally and Jerry, visiting since it was TOO HOT to stay outside and as everyone knows it is LOUD when a carpet cleaner is at work. Anyway we were at Sally and Jerry's about 45 minutes and the carpet guy comes looking for us. Assuming he was finished and needed to be paid Rick went out and they walked back to the rig. 30 minutes goes by and Rick hasn't returned so I leave our neighbors and...

Jun 9, 2019 - Another Update!

I just wanted to give everyone a quick update and let you know that Rick had his surgery on June 4 and everything went well. It was with much trepidation since it was abdominal surgery involving removal of about 8 inches of his small intestine and it was being done at the VA hospital in Phoenix! We had a very experienced surgeon and had been working with a wonderful gastroenterologist and the surgery went smoothly. Also, the staff on the surgical floor couldn’t have been better. They took excellent care of him. His surgery was on Tuesday...

May 5, 2019 - Phoenix

Yesterday afternoon the event we came to Phoenix for took place around 1800. It was pretty hot when we arrived but the sun soon started into its sunset mode and as soon as the sun disappeared the temperature began to fall and it became very comfortable. It was a very moving wedding which included a sand filling event that was to show that marriage is like bottles of sand of different colors that once the different colored sand is poured into a single container it is impossible to seperate the contents of the bottle, symbolizing the bond of...

May 3, 2019 - Phoenix

We left Indio on Tuesday and arrived at the Cotton Lane RV Park around 1430. The weather was great with sunny skies and temperatures in the lower 80’s. The road from Indio to Cotton Lane is in pretty good condition in both California and Arizona. That said, there are sections that need to be repaired but none of the I-10 roadway is as bad as the I-5 roadway in California. The scenery is all desert between Indio and Phoenix and there are very few stops, service centers, or settlements. The desert scenery does change a bit when you enter...

Apr 28, 2019 - That Day Has Finally Arrived!

After a record setting winter across most of the US, spring has finally sprung. Well, there was a little hiccup a week ago but nice weather is now here to stay. This means it is now time to turn the soil in gardens and start planting and for RV’ers it is time to raise the jacks and hit the road. That is what Rick and I have done for the past eight springs. But this year finds us putting down roots instead! Over the past year heath issues have us deciding to sell our rig and to settle in Phoenix. Both Jeff and Michele live here as does...

Mar 24, 2019 - Rolling, rolling and Uh Oh...

Saturday we were up early, ready for the long drive to Deming, New Mexico. Hooked up and running well and off the lot at Cummins at 8:45 a.m. Through 5 miles of construction and then into the Saturday morning traffic of Phoenix. And we made it through. We were finally through Chandler and on the way toward Tucson. About 5 miles or so north of Casa Grande we heard a popping sound. We looked at each other as we tried to determine what we had heard. No instruments were going crazy, the Bus still handled fine and the cruise had us going at 64...

Mar 22, 2019 - My Onan is generating a lot of FRUSTRATION

We left Yuma yesterday to come to Phoenix to get our Onan generator repaired. As you recall, the generator was inspected, adjusted and tested extensively last July. I wrote earlier in this journal about the issues of running and shutting down after 10 minutes all the way to two hours. We had the same issues driving to Phoenix yesterday. However, this morning, Cummins could not get the generator to run more than 30 seconds at any one time. Then they determined they could not repair as the issue is the same as last year and will require the...
