Sep 11, 2019 - 26th STOP - Holbrook, AZ

9/11/19 - Left the great RV Park in Sedona and went South on 179 to I 17, then North to Flagstaff. From Flagstaff it is East on I 40 to home. Stopped in Holbrook, AZ for the night. The sending unit I have on the dash that governs the Gain for the Break Buddy in the CR-V had the two little wire connecting to the 12 volt plugin break. I went to the office and there was a man standing out side and I asked him if he knew some one who had a way to solder the two wires back on the unit. He said come with me so I got in his car and he drove to his...

Nov 1, 2018 - Drive to Holbrook, Az

*We planned on leaving the campground at 8:00. There was too much snow on slideout we couldn’t close it. Dad worked on getting the snow of but still lots left on. *Lesson learned...anything on slideout when in will get all over the inside. The carpets are soaked! *About 3 hours into the trip we realized we need to get the rest of the snow off the roof of slideout. *We stayed at Flying Js about one hours in efforts to dry out the slideout. *Seemed like today’s drive was very slow. I did see some beautiful cliffs and mountain sides. *We...

Oct 8, 2018 - Petrified Forest

October 7, 2018 We are here in the OK RV park in Holbrook Az. Like its name this is just an OK Park. Flagstaff received 2 inches of snow last night, so looks like we left there just in time. It is cold here in Holbrook with the temps in 60 range during the day and the low 40 at night. We are running the furnace and some Electric Heat. The fireplace does a great job of warming this place up. For the last two days we have been visiting the Petrified forest. First the visitors center and then a scenic drive through the park. It was a cold...

Grand Canyon

Oct 1, 2018 - Holbrook, AZ- Petrified Forest KOA

Our trip from Dewey to Holbrook, AZ covered 179 miles, almost all of it on I-17 and I-40. It was cloudy the whole ride but we were fortunate to only have a very light rain during the last 30 or so miles. Doris took one picture of the Verde Valley right after we headed north on I-17 but it broke the camera so just the one picture today. I think we figured out what was wrong so maybe a few more tomorrow. There isn't a lot to take pictures of across the northern Arizona and New Mexico desert! We are staying at the Petrified Forest KOA in...

May 27, 2018 - Mesa to Holbrook

Mesa to Holbrook Day 1: Sunday-- May 27, 2018 We planned to leave early to beat the heat—we hooked up on Saturday and had a few household tasks to perform Sunday morning: bypass on the water softener; turn-off power to the electric water heater and set the hot water to come from the solar tank; turn off the water and remove the filters from the reverse osmosis water unit. Maryann transferred the last of the food items to the trailer refrigerator and Brian brought the basket with last of the various personal items that we used that morning....

Apr 28, 2018 - Holbrook, AZ - OK RV Park

Our trip from Albuquerque, NM to Holbrook, AZ was another 225 miles along Interstate 40, steadily heading west. We did cross the Continental Divide but it was a non-event as we are not really in the mountains and it seemed much like the rest of the trip except they had an exit with a few gift shops but that was it. We are staying at the OK RV Park and have a 50 amp, full hookup, pull-through that happens to be,the largest site in the park. Verizon is great and the satellite set up was quick and easy. Though we don't use it, the park also...

Apr 9, 2018 - Albuquerque NM to Holbrook AZ

Sorry for the late posts so I will try and catch up. Saturday we arrived at the American RV Resort in Albuquerque. Nice resort. I'm sorry I have not taken pics of the different rv parks because you can research all you want but you never really know what each park will be like until you get there. Arrived to find a flat tire. Now you know we all have insurance and roadside plans and you can only hope that the one you have chosen will be just as they say. After Sam spent some time talking to Good Sam, the company we chose, we got a phone...

Mar 31, 2018 - Holbrook, AZ

Averaging close to 11 mpg, we arrived at the Petrified National Forest Gift Center at the entrance to the park. We setup for our first night of boondocking (free camping with no hookups). We did a short bike ride into the park just before they closed, then headed back to camp to cook some steaks on the barby. Met some interesting neighbors who were also full-timers.

Sep 30, 2017 - Amazing Arizona

We have had an amazing week in Arizona. The highlight was, of course, the Grand Canyon. Day one, as reported, was a visit to the South Rim and its views and a tour of the Village. Day Two included walking the Rim Trail through the Village and taking the Shuttle bus out west to Hermit's Rest, stopping a various vistas and walking the Rim Trail in that area. Truly it was a RIM trail - one misstep and it is 1,000 feet to the next piece of earth. No high fence, either. Be careful or else! Day Three was our exit day and we drove to the vistas...

Jul 9, 2017 - More Route 66, Walnut Canyon & Winslow

Today has been an especially laid back day, with only a 90 mile drive from Flagstaff to Holbrook, Az. First, I left something out of yesterday's journal. I saw my first roadrunner yesterday, literally running down the road. The cute little fellow bore quite a resemblance to his cartoon representation, leaning into the run and with feet pedaling like the track on a very, very rapidly moving bulldozer. We made an unplanned stop at Walnut Canyon National Monument, since it was only a few miles off the route and we had all kinds of time. I've...

Road Trip 2017

Jan 18, 2017 - Holbrook AZ – Holbrook/Petrified Forest KOA

Took a couple of days and went to Moriarity NM to pick up our new Arctic Fox 5th Wheel. Found a few issues when we picked it up (chairs and couch didn’t match, wiring issues, etc.), but for the most part, it looked pretty good. We had planned to take a few days to make sure everything was working correctly (furnace, water heater, etc.), but the forecast in northern Arizona didn’t sound too good, so after a quick look-see, we hooked up and headed back toward Buckeye. Stayed here at Holbrook one night, then hit the road again just ahead of...

Retired at Last!

Sep 25, 2016 - Cottonwood

the last two morning have been cold. We have the floors turned on and then when I get up I turn on the fireplace.Tonight we are at a Thousand Trails in Cottonwood, Arizona. It will be a do nothing day again. We are staying at the Thousand Trails in Cottonwood, Arizona. It is time to restock the larder so it is off to Wal-Mart for us. Sometimes I wonder if we will get everything in the little car. But, even buying litter and DEF plus groceries we managed. We get back to camp, Mike puts the DEF in and I stash the groceries. Now it is off to...
