Jul 1, 2017 - Day 5-Grand Canyon

Today we rode The Grand Canyon Railway from Williams, AZ to the Grand Canyon. The ride was 2 hours each way. We saw prairie dogs, jackrabbits, antelope and elk. The Grand Canyon was gorgeous. All the kids all earned their Grand Canyon Jr. Ranger badge.

Jun 17, 2017 - GOD'S Majesty

There really isn't any way to describe the day we had. The majesty of the canyon-it's beyond words and I'm afraid that our pictures just can not do it justice. So I'll just relate how we spent nine, yes that's right nine, hours gasping at the beauty of this natural wonder! We entered the park about 8:30 am. We wanted to get there early since we hoped to avoid sitting in an entrance line for an hour or more. The last time we visited the park was in 2011 and we took the train up. Well that limits you on what you get to see because you have to...

Utah and Back

Mar 22, 2017 - Grand Canyon

We have made it to the Grand Canyon after all. We are staying in the National Forest land 7 miles from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. The weather has been nice it's in the 70's here. A lot nicer than in the desert. We have spent 4 days taking pictures of the canyon. It's hard to believe how big it is. Wed are moving on threw the Navajo Reservation. Heading on for Winslow, Arizona and then to the Meteor Crater. After that we will be seeing the Painted Desert, and the Petrified Forest National Park. Everything is going good for us. Soon...

Mar 19, 2017 - Grand Canyon- take two

About a year ago we took the train out of Williams, AZ, to see the Grand Canyon. That was interesting, but we only had about 20 minutes to actually see the the big hole. This time we drove up (about 2 hours from where we were camped) and spend several hours see the canyon from many different vantage points.

Mar 6, 2017 - Grand Canyon

We were hoping to go to the White Mountains to visit friends but they still had snow on the ground. While we were waiting for the weather to calm down, we decided to go to the Grand Canyon for a few days. The weather was predicted to be in the 60s so we made reservations for three days in the park. By the time we got there, the weather changed. It was 25 one day and there was still a bit of snow on the ground. At least the roads were clear. We drove to the main visitor center at Mather Point. It was beautiful as usual. The little bit of...

Nov 12, 2016 - Cindy hikes the Hermit Trail

Having done this hike 3 times before me, David thought I would enjoy a somewhat moderate hike to Dripping Springs. On the morning of our hike, it started with bugle calls from a Bull Elk travelling through the park with his harem and a few babies. After breakfast, I rolled on my soft wool socks and laced up my new hiking boots and wandered off to snag a picture of this bugler while David got our gear together. After 20min of trying to find my misplaced hiking poles, (buried behind the back seat of the truck) we were ready to go. We made a...

Nov 1, 2016 - What we did on our day's off

Well Hello again folks! While working at the Grand Canyon, David and I worked a full 40hr work week which left us with 2days off to “get things done around the house” and what not. On some days, we’d make the 1-1/2hr drive (one way) to Flagstaff to catch a new movie, grab some lunch, stock up and do some grocery shopping, or sometimes David would make appointments for some truck maintenance (oil change, DEF, or stuff we didn’t feel comfortable doing). On other days, David would either wash all the pollen or sap off the truck, camper AND...

Oct 20, 2016 - A Hello and new update from Cindy

Hello everyone and welcome again to our full-timing journal page! Since David’s quit writing, I’ve decided to take on the challenge of keeping you informed as well as entertained about our life on the road. I have big shoes to fill so bear with me. Here we go… For my first entry, I will start with our seasonal return to Grand Canyon National Park. Since we left early last year, we promised the Grand Canyon Association we’d give them a full season if they let us return and so we did. Going back to the Grand Canyon was kind of like “going...

Oct 11, 2016 - Grand Canyon, Arizona

Oct 11 Today we visited the central shops and studios. I really wondered if they had places that sold my ring that I got 30 years ago, the turquois one. I didn’t find them, although we didn’t stop in any hotels to see their gift shops. We drove into the Market Plaza and stropped in the general store. It is really general because it sold everything, from gifts, to clothes, to camping gear, to groceries. Then we hopped a bus for the rest of the center section. We wandered past a hotel and ended up on the Rim Trail, which is a mostly paved...

Oct 10, 2016 - Grand Canyon, Arizona

Oct 10 Today we did the center of things. That consisted of the Visitors Center and gift shop and then buses to the western part. You can’t drive your car like we did when we were here 30 years ago with the kids. And I forgot my Passport that I stamp with the stamps they have in the visitors centers. Each one is different and has the date on it. I put it in my backpack tonight so I’m sure to have it tomorrow. It was a partly sunny day, so we ate our lunch in the truck and then took off for a long bus ride to Grand Canyon Village and the...

Oct 8, 2016 - Grand Canyon, Arizona

Oct 8 We were going to meet D&D in Four Corners but they had left before we got there. It is a nothing with just the four corners of Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona meet. They had done a nice little plaque type thing in the ground on which people can stand in four states at once. We did and had our picture taken. Then on to the Grand Canyon. We took the road in from the east and it had some pretty good views of the canyon. We didn’t stop at any because we couldn’t pull off the road. They will wait until tomorrow. Oct 9 We did the...

Oct 4, 2016 - THE Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon, you know, that big hole in the ground? We arrived on Friday afternoon and went to our campsite. I admit, this is my least favorite campsite on this journey. However, it was the only RV park within 25 miles of Grand Canyon-South Rim, so we sucked it up. We had to drive through the Grand Canyon to get to the other side, so my first views were through the RV window. ‘Meh’, yeah, I thought ‘meh, it’s not better then Zion’. One of the things that Steve and I had realized was that we hadn’t been doing any touristy things – like...
