Dec 6, 2012 - Gila Bend AZ - Holt's Shell RV Park

Headed to Gila Bend for a couple of days. It's pretty close to Buckeye and we wanted to check out some RV parks for our winter residence. Found a nice park with friendly people and lots of activities in Goodyear AZ, so that will be our home for January, February and March.

Jan 28, 2012 - A busy week!

On Saturday Jan 21 we went to the “community breakfast” here at Cocopah. We met some more of the Park residents and introduced one lady to REAL maple syrup. She was impressed. The weekend was all about working around the “house”. I had to clean out the drain in the bathroom sink and in so doing managed to dislodge a shelf. The best way to repair it was with a power nail or staple gun and I don’t have one. I checked with my buddy Tom and, sure enough, he has one. So I borrowed his nail gun and compressor and repaired that as well as a few...

Jan 19, 2012 - We travel to Gila Bend on out way to "Q".

Ruth Ann and I are off to Quartzsite for the RV Show in the Big Tent. We try to get there every winter. It is great fun. We are dry camping with some friends from the Newmar groups. We stopped tonight half way there in Gila Bend. I worked today (Wednesday) until 1:30pm AZ time. Then I finished up dressing the wiring on the four new solar panels I installed on our coach this past week or so. This next week or ten days will be a good test. More tomorrow.....

Mar 8, 2011 - San Diego, CA

The park we stayed at in the San Diego area was beautiful. It is called Santee Lakes Park. It is run by the Padre Dam Water Commission. It's a nice recreation area for both day users and campers. They have 300 campsites. Within the park is a series of 7 lakes which I think are man-made. There are also several large covered RV storage sheds with large solar panels on the roofs that supply 50% of the park's electricity. The water in the brooks and used for watering is all reclaimed water. The brook in back of us at times was dry as a bone and...

Back to Arizona

Feb 19, 2011 - Gila Bend, AZ

Today we left to head west not sure how far we would travel along Interstate 8. The skies were black and there was some rain and wind coming up. We only traveled an hour and decided to stop in Gila Bend because the weather was getting worse. Our campground had open desert behind our rig that was filled with lovely desert plants and mountains on the horizon. Close to the back of our rig there were scores of birds: doves, quail, sparrows and many others. They were feeding along the ground and gathering in the low trees as the rain started. In...

Dec 23, 2010 - OTRA - AZ - Gila Bend

12/23/10 LEAVE TIME: 10:00 MILES: 2.3 Met Harry and Joyce Laughman (an “internet friend”) at a truck stop outside of Tucson for breakfast on the way to our next stop in Gila Bend, AZ. We parked next to another fiver and noticed he had a very flat tire so Bob lent our jack to the young man to fix it. Had a very good (but very filling, especially for this non-breakfast person!) meal and then on our way again. We’re going to stop in the area on the way back so they can show us some of the local sights. Into Augie’s Quail Trail RV Park at...

Mar 8 64921 8:16 Up early, we have too parks to see today in Gila Bend. RG wants to hide under the covers and will on top of first the sheet, then the blanket and then the quilt. I finally get the coverlet on and he hides in the pillows. We are ready to go, it is a beautiful day, sunny, no clouds, and no cat. Can’t find RG, he is hiding somewhere in the RV and won’t come out. We have looked everywhere, in all the drawers and cupboards, behind the couch, under the couch, in the bed, the closet and even places he could not get to. We head...

Southwest USA 2010

Jan 31, 2010 - Puerto Penasco, Mexico here we come!

Well, we got everything done we had intended to at Starlight Solar. Then, the next morning, Murphy's Law struck. Our chassis battery (the battery used for starting the engine) had given us some trouble in cold temperatures. We had Larry do a simple check and it seemed to be ok. Well, when we went to leave Larry's parking lot Tuesday morning the battery just would not turnover. Again, thank goodness this happened now and not on the road in Canada or Alaska. This battery is HUGE. Many rigs have two regular sized batteries. Our rig has this...

Jan 29, 2010 - Gila Bend, Arizona

We spent a couple of days in Yuma, before we moved on to Gila Bend. While in Yuma, Susan's brother and his wife visited us briefly. At Gila Bend we were here to do the rally, Escapee Bootcamp. I hoped we were learn some new stuff. I am now finding it is hard for us to learn new stuff as we have learned a lot already. We did accomplish two things I wanted. First was to get the truck and trailer weighted properly (wheel by wheel). Second was for Susan to get private behind the wheel driving lessons pulling our trailer. She got 4 hours of...

Dec 21, 2009 - California Day 8

California Trip -- Day 8 After spending the night at a terrific KOA in Los Cruces, New Mexico, we headed west. We were not sure where we were going to end up for the day, but we just went west on Interstate 10. As we headed into the New Mexico desert, it became obvious that there were not many sights to see. Many of the places were natural sights or desert preserves so we skipped many of these opportunities. The landscape in the New Mexico and Arizona desert was totally different than the Texas desert. The desert today was one in which...
