Darin and I took a drive on "The Most Scenic Highway in America," the highway from Anchorage that goes south to Seward. It's not an idle boast-- of all the drives we've done in the world, this one truly is in the Top 5. On this part of our journey, we took the highway until the Kenai Penninsula, then we veered towards the western coast. We planned to meet my brother-in-law Chad, and his friend, also named Chad, in Soldotna so we could watch them fish for salmon. Aug 13, 2005 - Day 20, Saturday

August 13, Saturday-Left Wasilla and drove over to Palmer this AM. Spent a good bit of time browsing the antique farming items at their museum quality visitor center. They also have a nice flower and vegetable display. The docent suggested taking the Old Glenn Hwy. to see what agriculture there is. In 1935 Alaska homesteaded over 200 farmers from northern MN, WI & MI. Most of them were destitute because of the depression and dust bowl years. Only a few made it, but most stayed in Alaska.
