Jul 19, 2019 - Palmer/Wasilla

The trip had been going too well. This morning when we were getting ready to move camp, My slide outs and Leveling feet would not retract. I contacted the manufacturer HWH Corp for assistance. After a lot of troubleshooting it looks like the Hydraulic pump motor has died. I had to manually retract four slides, not an easy task. The slides finally got to travel position at 4PM. We were only 3 1/2 hours from our next stop so we went ahead and drove it. Although I closed the valves I had to open to put the slides in, one bedroom slide opened...

Jul 16, 2019 - Hatcher Pass, Muskox Farms, Reindeer Farms

Palmer, Alaska was one of our very favorite places in Alaska. We had such fun there and stayed at the Elk's Lodge on 2 separate times on our journey. Here are a few more things we did while in Palmer. More to follow! Independence Mine - One of Alaska's largest gold mining camps. Although no longer in operation, the buildings are maintained so people can take self-guided tours through the mine camp.

Jul 14, 2019 - Mines, Musk and Mutts

Tuesday, We moved the 60 miles or so to Mtn View RV Park in Palmer. Low and behold, we saw that Marvin, Lee and their wives (from Klutina) were here as well. We had a nice visit with both. We caught up on a little shopping and some errands. We also toured the Musk Ox Farm here. Interesting critters and we learned that they were nearly extinct in the US by the 1950s. Restoration efforts were first undertaken in 1954 by a gentleman from Huntington, VT (close to where we used to live). About a decade later he moved the operation to Alaska. On...

Jul 10, 2019 - Palmer, AK

We had such fun in Palmer. Starts with the Elk's Lodge and campground sitting right on a beautiful lake!! So fun watching the private float planes that belong to the homeowners that have their houses right on the lake. Our son, Erik flew into Anchorage to spend 4 days with us. Went to visit the Musk Ox farm and the Reindeer farm. Also took a drive up Hatcher Pass for a beautiful drive to show Erik. Got a flat tire on the Honda heading downhill from the pass in the rain!

Aug 29, 2018 - Palmer

We left Seward for palmer, Alaska on Thursday. It rained off and on most of the way to Palmer which is about 40 miles past Anchorage on the way to Valdez. This was a short stay and it rained most of the time. We just spent the time getting the trailer ready for the trip to Valdez and did some grocery shopping wince there was a large store there. The skies did clear for the drive to Valdez on Saturday since the Glenn Highway to Glennellen and then the Richardson Highway the rest of the way to Valdez is very scenic.

Aug 17, 2018 - Palmer and Matanuska Glacier

Drove to Palmer and found a market; my spider senses working overtime! Bought some homemade gifts and had a triple B with B (toasted sandwich with Brie, Bacon and rasBerry with Brian). Sweet and savoury, different and nice. Then onto the reindeer farm, not too commercial, down to earth people running it with a love and passion for the reindeer. Reindeer facts - 1. Their antlers drop off every year and new ones grow every summer. As they are growing, they are covered with fur (very dense, fluffy fur, like a bunny) and have blood circulating...

Aug 7, 2018 - A Return Trip to Palmer

Let me see if I can explain this, our original destination was going to be Seward & we did make the drive there. HOWEVER.....when we arrived there, we had very little phone service, we could make a phone call but that was it. We had booked a site at Stoney Creek RV Park for 3 nights(it listed in our Camping book guide). Now the problem was, we drove into Seward...couldn't find the darn park...no signs...no directions in the guide....SO...we called the Park...NO ANSWER.... we stopped at two places for a map of the town...NO SUCH...

Jul 19, 2018 - Fly Fishing the Little Sisitna River

Pete did some fly fishing on the Little Susitna River, I went along just to watch him (and watch for bears of course). He fished for about 30 minutes before he offered me the bear spray....guess if any showed up before that...I could have hit them with my purse.

Jul 16, 2018 - Traveling to Palmer

We are currently in Palmer....staying in Paradise Alaska RV Park. The park is small but quite pretty 7 we have almost a 360 degree view of gorgeous mountains. We are near the Alaskan State Fair Grounds (the fair takes place in late August) & close to a small airport. This park is new & opened up in May of this year, the owners are very helpful & are down to earth. Love it here. We will soon be out checking out our surroundings.

Jul 21, 2017 - Plan "B" - back to Palmer

Off we continued driving, trying for Portage, where we stayed before. When I finally had phone service they only had the more expensive sites left so we just went to Palmer Elks again. It was a long drive beginning at 9:30 a.m. to arriving at 4:00 p.m. Daisy had thrown up after the curvy highway down to Seward and again coming back out of valley. Poor baby, she was car sick. I gave her something for her tummy and later at Palmer had to give her something mild to eat. This was the first time she experienced distress from traveling. We had...

Jun 6, 2017 - From Liberty Falls to Kings River June 06,2017

Greetings Loyal Followers, Wow, maybe this is some kind of cult thing going on here; Loyal Followers. We may have to notify the Feds and put a stop to this traveling nightmare. Anyone out there know any Federal Officers that I could contact? Two days of easy traveling since my last entry. Last evening we camped at one of the most spectacular places I have ever come across. We were about twenty five mile east of Kenny Lake at a State Park called Liberty Falls. As soon as we drove in, Nancy and I looked at each other, and smiled. We have hit...

Feb 11, 2017 - Hatcher Pass

Today we went went to Hatcher pass outside of Palmer, Alaska. Now, you would think that there would be snow in alaska but at the moment they do not have much and have not for a couple years. What a surprise, it is just like Colorado but it was getting a lot of snow when we left. With that being said Hatcher Pass just opened last week. On our way we enjoyed the sunrise at about 8:30am. When we found the trail head there were no trucks with sleds only cars with snowshoers or back country skiers. A ranger pulled up and inspected our sleds and...
