Aug 7, 2018 - A Return Trip to Palmer

Let me see if I can explain this, our original destination was going to be Seward & we did make the drive there. HOWEVER.....when we arrived there, we had very little phone service, we could make a phone call but that was it. We had booked a site at Stoney Creek RV Park for 3 nights(it listed in our Camping book guide). Now the problem was, we drove into Seward...couldn't find the darn park...no signs...no directions in the guide....SO...we called the Park...NO ANSWER.... we stopped at two places for a map of the town...NO SUCH...

Jul 19, 2018 - Fly Fishing the Little Sisitna River

Pete did some fly fishing on the Little Susitna River, I went along just to watch him (and watch for bears of course). He fished for about 30 minutes before he offered me the bear spray....guess if any showed up before that...I could have hit them with my purse.

Jul 16, 2018 - Traveling to Palmer

We are currently in Palmer....staying in Paradise Alaska RV Park. The park is small but quite pretty 7 we have almost a 360 degree view of gorgeous mountains. We are near the Alaskan State Fair Grounds (the fair takes place in late August) & close to a small airport. This park is new & opened up in May of this year, the owners are very helpful & are down to earth. Love it here. We will soon be out checking out our surroundings.

Jul 21, 2017 - Plan "B" - back to Palmer

Off we continued driving, trying for Portage, where we stayed before. When I finally had phone service they only had the more expensive sites left so we just went to Palmer Elks again. It was a long drive beginning at 9:30 a.m. to arriving at 4:00 p.m. Daisy had thrown up after the curvy highway down to Seward and again coming back out of valley. Poor baby, she was car sick. I gave her something for her tummy and later at Palmer had to give her something mild to eat. This was the first time she experienced distress from traveling. We had...

Jun 6, 2017 - From Liberty Falls to Kings River June 06,2017

Greetings Loyal Followers, Wow, maybe this is some kind of cult thing going on here; Loyal Followers. We may have to notify the Feds and put a stop to this traveling nightmare. Anyone out there know any Federal Officers that I could contact? Two days of easy traveling since my last entry. Last evening we camped at one of the most spectacular places I have ever come across. We were about twenty five mile east of Kenny Lake at a State Park called Liberty Falls. As soon as we drove in, Nancy and I looked at each other, and smiled. We have hit...

Feb 11, 2017 - Hatcher Pass

Today we went went to Hatcher pass outside of Palmer, Alaska. Now, you would think that there would be snow in alaska but at the moment they do not have much and have not for a couple years. What a surprise, it is just like Colorado but it was getting a lot of snow when we left. With that being said Hatcher Pass just opened last week. On our way we enjoyed the sunrise at about 8:30am. When we found the trail head there were no trucks with sleds only cars with snowshoers or back country skiers. A ranger pulled up and inspected our sleds and...

Aug 19, 2016 - Palmer

Aug 19-20 This was another short drive 167 miles back through the Kenai Peninsula and the Turnagain Arm. No wildlife seen on this trip. Palmer is just north of Anchorage and in the Matanuska Valley. We went to the visitors center and saw a great movie about the settlement of the valley. Palmer was settled in the 1930’s when the US Government got farmers from Minnesota and Wisconsin to come here and farm the land. The Government provided transportation for the people and gave them plots of land to farm. There were many problems with the...

Aug 18, 2016 - Seward to Palmer,AK

August 18, 2016 2014 Storybook cabernet Sonoma County was our wine last night. We also received a very nice present of fresh halibut that a guy who Bob met outside the bathroom gave us. He was not going to process it for shipment so we benefited! Today we had to wear sunglasses as we left the Kenai Peninsula heading for Palmer. We backtracked north on the Seward Highway through the Chugach mountains with the various glaciers, lakes and rivers. Beautiful drive and nice to see it this time without rain. At Portage we turned northwest again...

Jul 14, 2016 - Talkeetna to Anchorage with a Visit to Palmer

I was sad to say good bye to Talkeetna, but it was time to move on. Traveling down the road we came to Wasilla and, no I could not see Russia. Nor did I see Sarah. Weasel just seemed to be suburban sprawl and we felt no need to stop. We were on a mission, to pick up our mail delivery in Palmer. We arranged to get our mail forwarded to "general delivery" we were also expecting the replacement Protect A Tow. Everything was there waiting for us. There was one other thing that I wanted to do in Palmer and that was to visit the Musk Ox Farm and...

Jul 2, 2016 - Second day at Elks Club campground

It's Saturday of the holiday weekend, the weather is "fair", a bit cool & cloudy, and we're just going to have a lazy day around camp. Taking advantage of some down time, we cleaned up the truck & camper, and went for a boat ride with some Elks Club members, Dave & Merri Bell Dias. We met them in the bar the night before, and they graciously offered to take us for a tour of "Finger Lake" which is the beautiful lake the Elks Club is on. Dave & Merri Bell live in Mexico in the winter, south of Playa Del Carmen, and north of the border of...
