Jul 20, 2016 - Birthday

Yes, today was my birthday, I'd like to quit having them so often but as they say, it sure beats the alternative. Karen always makes me a cake, gets me a mushy, sweet card and a gift or two. I got a call from Isabel and got to talk to her and Angela, yay. Thanks everyone for everything. Don't know if I needed a new camera but I got one, I hope it isn't smarter than I am. Ha. Somehow Karen got separated from one of her credit cards, and after a lot of investigation and phone calls she thankfully located it at a gift shop in......DENALI! She...

Jul 20, 2016 - Friends, family and fishing

We are having a wonderful time here at my brother Jim's cabin on the Kenai River. It's been absolutely beautiful every day. Fishing is a little slow. I hope it picks up soon. Are catching some salmon but it's slow. But it's absolutely beautiful here. Every day is a gift from God. Our sister-in-law Margret Ann and my brother Jim are amazing host. Also bonus getting to spend time with my brother Fran from South Dakota. Wish we could bottle up on this beauty here and you could all see it.

Jul 19, 2016 - Breather

Karen and I took a breather today, a day we didn't have to be somewhere or do anything. That was nice. This morning I walked around the Walmart parking lot looking at all of the RVs. There were a lot of them and quite a few didn't look road worthy. There were over 30 in the lot at 11 am. I'd say that twice that number were here last night. this lot is one of the largest I've seen so there was no crowding. We went to eat lunch at DW Grill and they had outstanding burgers. Then we had to stop by Sam's Club to pick up a few things.

Jul 18, 2016 - Fairbanks, Alaska

Karen got up and fixed us a big breakfast this morning. She had some leftover corned beef that made her concoction awsome. We had to do a little manuvering to get the motorhome away from the other rvs so the Tracker could be hitched up.We drove the 8 miles to use the parks dump station and take on some fresh water. We lucked out and there was no line. Fairbanks was our goal and we drove all the way in the rain, some of it pretty heavy. Of course we had to stop at Walmart for supplies, we may spend the night here. I don't know if I have...

Drove from Delta Junction to Fairbanks. On our way out of Delta Junction we stopped at Rikka's Roadhouse. Roadhouses were an important part of Alaska history and they dotted the byways, offering a place to overnight and good food. This was an interesting stop and we enjoyed a nice walk around the grounds and looking at the buildings. Then a tourbus arrived and it was tine to leave. Stayed 2 nights at the Elks Club. Visited the Morris Thompson Visitor Center, which is also the First Nation cultural center. Watched a display of music and...

Fairbanks We stayed in Fairbanks for a week-the longest we have been in one place since leaving Arizona. After settling into Rivers Edge RV Park, we found so much to see and do here, we never felt it was too long! One of the wonders of almost 21 hours of sun is the way the flowers grow. They are everywhere and incredibly beautiful. We can't imagine what they will look like at the end of the season! The Chena River flows through the town, and much of the life and activities are on or near the river. We went on the Riverboat Discovery the day...

Alaska Trip 2016

Jun 25, 2016 - Fairbanks

Hello everyone! We spent our last day in Fairbanks touring a place called Pioneer Park. This park had a lot of historic buildings depicting how Fairbanks looked in the old days. There we watched another historic film about the Gold Rush days that lead from the Yukon territory in Canada up into Alaska, especially the Fairbanks area. For supper we went to a "Salmon Bake" it was a place where you had all you could eat Prime Rib, Fried Cod, and Grilled Salmon. It was very good, but nothing beats the Grilled Salmon we had at the Klondike Rib and...
