Mar 5, 2021 - Red Bay AL
The weather drastically improved with temps pushing 70° by Tuesday and most of the snow has melted. The locals are as baffled as we are but they ain’t complainin’. On Monday we got our Aquahot annual service done and did some lounging around – which we have gotten very good at over the last week – then Tuesday morning we got called into the service center for our shorter than usual list of needed repairs. A new microwave was the big ticket item – ours had become fickle – though I really wanted a new air conditioner, but since there is still...

Feb 20, 2021 - Red Bay AL
On Friday we unplugged all of our life support connections, pulled out of Summerfield and pointed the house north on I-75, west on I-10, then north onto U.S. 231 just west of Marianna to our stop for the night in Ozark, Alabama, less than an hour north of the Florida state line after an occasionally damp but generally painless drive. Our Saturday trek from Ozark to Red Bay was another uneventful trip other than the plummeting temperatures. We left Ozark just after 9:00 with temps around 50° but when we pulled into Red Bay at about 2:15 it...

Jan 14, 2021 - Last few weeks at Gulf
Last few weeks at the Gulf, then westward to California for four months. Great lunch from Desoto's; Monte Cristo with raspberry jam. Got a surprise mail package from two of our girls. Lobster!!! Not just lobster, but shrimp, scallops, muscles and other goodies for dinner on New Years Day. No end of year party here. Been cooler here; 50s and 60s with overnights at 30s. So, no beach stuff. All prepped: Cleaned the bus, tire and fluids checked. all packed up and ready to head West.

Dec 25, 2020 - Merry Christmas
BBQ'd the Wahoo fish for Thanksgiving. Things cooled down a bit, but still not too cold. Not much going on that we feel safe about. Still indoor dining and bars open here. Plenty of entertainment at the bars. However, until this virus is under control, it's just irresponsible behavior. Got all our Christmas stuff sent out. Keeping it light this year after spending $ 400 last Christmas for shipping alone. We decided to give each other the present of a condo stay at the Lighthouse which is right on the beach with a balcony overlooking the...

Dec 10, 2020 - Birmingham, Alabama
We are impatient 'to get there' but are still traveling 250 miles a day. I usually ask for 2 days off from driving on the way to Houston and 300 miles between stops. This time we are trying something different. This is a nice older park and is obviously a former KOA. Traffic to get here was pretty heavy! We took the usual bypass around Birmingham and then I-65 south for about 8 miles. I-65 was something else, about 5 lanes and lots of commuter traffic! The weather has turned nicer and a bit warmer, but still very cool.

Nov 23, 2020 - Gulftime
Our adventure continues in Gulf Shores. We are not attending the camps dinners or socials, and are limiting contact at this time. We have played video games with the grandkids via Facetime, and also did a Zoom Piano Recital where they played beautifully. There is a stray kitty that hangs around the camp and Mary has been feeding it regularly with our left over cat food. No, we are not going to catnap it. Our beach visits are great, but since we have to walk or ride bikes there, we could only bring our backpack chairs. To remedy that, we...

Nov 20, 2020 - Foley AL
After a day of tinkering and computer stuff on Sunday, we kicked things into gear on Monday. We had to get at least some of our packing done for the Chicago journey because Tuesday is the day that we relocate the coach for its cabinet work and Michele has an appointment in Tuscumbia to get her nails done. I ran some errands – the bank, post office, Dollar Tree and the jeweler – along with the almost mandatory daily trip to the campground store for some last minute parts while Michele did some more wedding things and whipped up another Key...

Nov 14, 2020 - Gulf and Birthday
No visual new damage here. BUT, some light flooding and past hurricane damage. Hitting the beach and riding bikes in the State Park. Trying to get back in shape, so about 12 miles a day in the State Park. Blue Angles did a fly by from Pensacola. That looked pretty cool. Hit the seafood store and picked up some shrimp and a couple Wahoo steaks. Still keeping an eye on yet another hurricane in the gulf. Seems to be bouncing around out there. Craziest storm season yet. Lucky for us, the hurricane shot through Florida and bypassed us. So, we...

Monday went better than expected in some respects; but not all. The annual service on the coach was quick – about an hour – and thorough, but more expensive than expected. The A/C service call was free and the outlet installation was cheaper so really, the day was pretty much a winner and 3 more things are ticked off our list. Tuesday however, was a bit of a train wreck. The modification to the wet bay that was supposed to take 4-6 hours took all day...AND all day Wednesday; but was cheaper than I feared it to be so again, a winner, mostly....

It rained overnight so Saturday’s drive to Florence was gray and coolish – 55° was the high for the day – but the rain had all moved east so at least it was dry. A Target stop, some mediocre pizza for lunch and then a Publix visit were enough to take up a few hours of our day. While it’s nice to have no appointments or the threat of what we call the “fire drill” where we get a call telling us to be somewhere on short notice, we would rather be ticking our scheduled items off our list but at this point we can’t complain too much...things...

Oct 29, 2020 - Gulf Sorm Zeta
Continuing to hit the beach and ride bikes through the State Park. Unfortunately, Hurricane Zeta hit the Gulf Coast, while not a direct hit on us, we decided to head towards Tallahassee. Last storm here had standing water up to 4 feet and winds strong enough to overturn RVs. Heavy rains all the way to Ponce De Leon Florida, where we spent time in the rest stop. There are nice woods with picnic tables at this stop. Not bad for a two night stay. Generator on and air conditioning on. Made it back to Gulf Shores safely. Wind last night was...

Oct 24, 2020 - Gulf Shores
Gulf Shores Alabama is a fun little city with miles of white sugar sand and great seafood. We will be here 3 months. Weather is still nice; Low 80s, cooling at night. The beach is so relaxing. The sand, water and slight breeze to lull us to a drowsy good time. We even sit outside to watch TV and eat.
