The Isle of Mull is where the name MacGillivray/McGilvray/MacGilvray/Mac Ghilbrath/etc/etc/etc originated. This is not a very populated island. It was more populated before crofters were cleared from their farmland by the Campbells. Lots of MacGillivrays moved to Canada. Many stayed though & there are still lots of MacGillivrays on Mull. More live here than near the familial seat, Dunmaglas, on the east side of Loch Ness. The other MacGillivray enclave is Nairn, just to the east of the northern end of Loch Ness.
