Kilmartin is a gently curved valley carved by a glacier from the last ice age 10,000 years ago. It is a truly fascinating place from an archeological perspective. The main significance of the area is that it contains evidence of some of the earliest human inhabitation 8,000 years ago! There are an impressive number of prehistoric burial cairns, standing stones, stone engravings and stone circles dating from 3,000 to 1,500 BCE.
