Greenock Our Greenock stop is the port for visiting Glasgow. We have visited Glasgow before so we decided to stay in Greenock. A local group of volunteers offer a 2 hour coach ride around the area. We drove around Greenock and then on to Gouroch. A huge natural base for shipping it was used during WW2. Various industries have been here over the years including tourism. Now Amazon distribution has a warehouse here. Our next stop should have been Kirkwall on the Orkney Islands but unfortunately the weather was not on our side and we...

May 13, 2016 - Day 6--Glasgow

Our first stop in Scotland, we landed at Greenock, a port city for Glasgow. We hired a taxi that was supposed to take us to the Loch Loman, the Sterling Castle, and then to Glasgow's historic region. However, we move a little too slowly and never made it to Glasgow. The driver took us to the little lakeside town of Luss. It is a quaint little Scottish village originally settled by Vikings. It sits right on the Loch Loman and offers wonderful views. It was a little cold, so I'm thinking Mom and Dad enjoyed it less than I had hoped they...

Jul 3, 2014 - Greenock - Glasgow, Scotland

My great-great-grandfather, Angus Cameron, emigrated from Greenock/Glasgow probably around 1840 to Prince Edward Island, Canada. Can't believe we'll be in the same place my ancestors are. I understand Greenock was quite the shipyard two hundred years ago but it did not have anything to do with the Titanic - the Irish get the blame for that one! If Scotland was shaped like a person, Greeenock is on one side of his waist and Edinburgh on the other. Generally when the ship docks in Greenock, it is to give people the opportunity to visit Glasgow, Loch Lomond, or the nearby whiskey distilleries. However, today was the last day of the Tatoo in Edinburgh so special arrangements were made to bus those lucky enough to get tickets to Edinburgh to take advantage.
