A day trip from Dornoch took us north along the east coast driving in and out of misty/foggy roads to John O'Groats, the last village on mainland UK. We headed to Duncansby Head which is the most north easterly point on mainland UK, then headed to Dunnet Head, the most northern point on mainland UK with some mystical views to the Orkneys. We drove across the top of Scotland and then returned to Dornoch, following beautiful lochs on single lane narrow winding roads, stopping often at Passing Places to let oncoming traffic through. From Inverness we took the road recommended by Bob, our B&B host, to Cromarty, birthplace of Hugh Miller, the famous Scottish Geologist and Writer. From here we caught a car ferry to Nigg, before heading north to Dornoch. We arrived too early to check in, so explored this lively town by foot..as if our feet haven't done enough walking..a great walk including a walk through the woods, ending up at the Dornoch Castle Hotel for a beer and dose of wifi before heading to our B&B.
