We could...

Jul 17, 2011 - Last days at Oxenfoord

14th July Another fine day, but it isn’t expected to last. We got in a few hours work before knocking off for lunch. We walked to the Stair Arms to meet a friend from Texas (yep, the USA one). Heather was home for four weeks, but today was pretty much the only day we could get together. It was great catching up. We had a long lunch, and then it was back to work for us. The swallows in the alleyway where Cynthea is stripping (furniture, not clothes!) have taken their maiden flight, so it wont be long before the babies leave home. 15-17...

Today is another stunning day, just as they forecast. We are away to catch the 9.10 bus, and have to hurry as we have left a bit late. We make the bus in...

Jul 12, 2011 - Back at work

10th-12th July Sunday and Monday we work between showers, Tony continues with his archaeological dig in the garden, Cynthea works on stripping the first of two garden seats for repainting. The lack of a sanding block is causing a hassle, there IS one somewhere, we have found the pack it came in. No proper stirring stick for the paint either, we will have to make do there. Next door Anne and Peter are poodle-sitting, a big white fluffy thing that is scared of the cat. It is funny to watch as Wilf spots her and chases her off. She gets a bit...

Jul 3, 2011 - Oxenfoord - just moved next door

27 June – 3 July Monday 27th was the last day at the gardens. We enjoyed our time there and Anne and Peter were pleased with our work. They really need a few people there to help, it is a big area they have to work with. After we finish we move out of the caravan in the garden to the Garden House. This is where the head gardener used to live, it has recently been renovated, and there is lots of room here. A big cuddly cat rules the roost, Wilfred is gorgeous, but he is definitely in charge. There is also a wee boarder terrier here, and the...

Jun 26, 2011 - Oxenfoord and Royal Highland Show

21-26 June Our second week at the market garden sees more variety of work as Tony is busy laying weed matting or stringing tomatoes up in the glass house, Cynthea is busy picking fruit (raspberries, black currants, strawberries) when it isn’t raining. Tony had to recycle old weed matting, and all went well until he saw the size of the SPIDERS living in the old stuff. Weather wise the week was patchy, and it got a little cool some days, we even resorted to having the heater on in the caravan a few times. We had the weekend off again, and...

Jun 20, 2011 - Oxenfoord 15-20 June

June 15th- 20th June We are up about 7.30 for another day in the garden. Rain was likely again today, but it didn’t come to anything much, just a few spits while we were in the garden, then while we were having lunch there was a wee shower that barely lasted a minute. There is a wide variety of flowers, fruit and vege grown here, currants, raspberries, strawberries, tomatoes, cucumbers, salad mix. In summer there is a small shop with pick your own fruit. Many families come out for that, and Peter and Anne hope to run a café from here in...

There are owls in the woods, and also a couple of pairs of buzzards near, but we are yet to see those. We have fruit for breakfast and head over to the shed at 9am. First up we are packaging for the home...
