Jul 19, 2013 - Nairn to Edinburgh via Perth and Braemar
Our stop for the night was in Nairn as we had had difficulty getting accommodation for 3 in Inverness. Fortuitesly we ended up with this ‘castle’, the original section built in 1500’s then renovated and added to over the centuries. Jennie and Alyssa went to the beach (and it was a beach, with white sand)and did their sandcastle and paddling bit wile I vegged out. Not only was the building a bit special but so were the staff. One little example of this; one suggested we watch from the corridor near the door of a room where a tour bus...Jump to full entry

We have finally been paid and can afford to do some more travelling, flights are expensive unless booked in advance (2 months of so) so we decide on another road trip.Jump to full entry
Jun 18, 2011 - Braemar Castle
We stopped briefly late in the day to see Braemar Castle, unfortunately it had just closed for the day at 4PM. Took some photos from the outside anyway. Built early in the 17th Century, it has a similar look to Craigievar (only shorter and sand brown in colour), in that it is a single tower house - rather than a castle proper. However, unlike Craigievar, Braemar is enclosed by a star-shaped crenelated curtain wall. From the brochure, it appears that the inside of this privately held 'castle' was quite richly decorated in the Victorian style.Jump to full entry
