We visited the information centre for the famous battle of Bannockburn (1314) where the Scottish, under their king - Robert the Bruce - beat the English. In this battle, the Scotts were far outnumbered by the English, but they used superior tactics to beat them. They used long pikes to repel the repeated charges of the English mounted knights, and slowly marched forward to confine the English in a narrow bend of the river. The battle was a slaughter. After 5 months of preparation, planning and struggling with injuries and illness, finally it was time for the Microsoft UK Challenge. Essentially this is the largest team based adventure racing event held in the UK and this year the stage was the Scottish highlands. Basically it involves teams of 6 people competing against 130 other teams in running, cycling and kayaking combined with strategy, problem solving and construction based tasks over 5 days.
