Jan 10, 2020 - Still no snow!

Anther lovely day today - these are a few of the pics I took on our wander along the sloshy tow path. Very muddy in some places, just as well we had wellies on. There was mountains of snow forcast for this week but it hasn't eventuated, it's been very mild. Maybe when it eventually does snow it will be "horrendous"! Haha.

Jan 9, 2020 - Rowdy Rooks

We're back at the Bridge Inn, with Bishops Cannings on the left of the canal and Horton on the right. Today was bright sunshine for the morning and then it turned miserable and rained around 2pm. We managed to go for a walk before it started to rain, and it was quite warm. These rooks are right above our boat and are quite noisy first thing in the morning. The daffodils are already starting to come through, won't be long before they're flowering!! This is the thatch we looked at last November when we were here, and this is it today. So...

Jan 6, 2020 - Dull and dreary

Our walk around the village pond with a wander through the grave yard of St.James' church. The churches are only open at certain times and we seem to miss it when we are out and about. Yesterday was our 46th Wedding Anniversary and we had a lovely day with a very nice dinner with our friends Nick and Julie from the boat in front of us. Nick has been helping Tony to get the new battery system operating correctly. It's now raining so we were lucky to get our grocery shopping done this morning before it started. We have supplied up ready to...

Jan 1, 2020 - Addendum to previous entry

We got a glimpse of the castle on our walk today. Some very old buildings in an almost secret laneway. The old railway tunnel has, very cleverly, been converted into a shooting range. The railway station was closed in 1966. This is the Sexton's cottage in the St. John's Churchyard. there are 4 churches within cooee of each other in this town, St. John's, St. Andrew's, St. Mary's and St. James's. ...

Jan 1, 2020 - Happy New Year

A very HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone. We had a quiet night and in bed by 11pm. There wasn't much happening around us, no car horns blaring at midnight, we heard some fireworks but couldn't be bothered to get out of bed to see if we could see them. We're thinking about all affected by the catastrophic fires and hope you all stay safe. Our niece has been deployed today with the CFA to the Mallacoota fires. She is a member of the Ferntree Gully CFA. Wish we could send you some of the rain we're having here. Quite a sober start to the year.

Dec 30, 2019 - Devizes Museum

Another beautiful sunny day today. They're predicting a Heat Wave for New Year's day!!!!! 16 degrees or so. If we're lucky. We walked around to the musuem this afternoon and spent well over an hour drinking in all the history of the area. What with crop circles and stone circles it's been a very busy county. There is a castle here but it is privately owned and the public is not allowed to visit. Now we've sneaked over to the water point just on dusk so hopefully no one will be coming along to take our spot - it's very precious - all...

Dec 29, 2019 - Dull

After that beautiful Christmas Day weather it all turned horrible the next day. A light drizzle and mist for 2 days and today isn't much better - no drizzle though. The forcast is for some warmer weather on New Year's day, so that should be nice. Hope you all had a lovely festive time. Time to start getting back to "normal" after all the rushing around.

Dec 25, 2019 - Merry Christmas

After a cold frosty night we awoke to an absolutely glorious day. The sun has shone all day but it was quite chilly out. Around 8 or 9 degrees. After our Christmas Dinner we went for a walk down the locks. We started here at lock 40 and went all the way down to Lock 29. A 3 1/2 km each way trek. This heron was posing for a photo along with it's reflection. This kingfisher was very well camouflaged - if it hadn't been for some people looking at it we would never have seen it. For all the talk about conservation we can't believe the...

Dec 23, 2019 - That hot brown smell!!

Yesterday the starter motor on the generator decided to pack it in. It seized solid leaving a very nasty smell. So Tony had to start searching the internet for a new one. The only place he could find one was in Preston - 206 miles from here. So he rang first thing this morning and a very nice fellow told him he thought they had one. If we had them send it to us we wouldn't have received it until at least Friday - so the only thing to do was hire a car and drive up to Preston to get it. Then came the phone calls to the hire car companies -...

Dec 18, 2019 - We missed the bus

We caught the bus into Salisbury this morning, The bus goes through quite a few villages with narrow roads, we met farmer Brown and his tractor today. We did some shopping and wandered around a bit. I misread the bus timetable for the return bus and we missed the intended bus by just a few minutes. We then had to wait just over 2 hours for the next bus!!!!!! Not happy Jan! So we had a look around St. Thomas's Church which is being slowly renovated. This mural has recently been repainted and is stunning. By the time we got on the bus...

Dec 15, 2019 - A look at where we are heading

This morning was spent making some mini Christmas Puds. They smell delicious. Then after lunch we went for a walk down the locks to see what is ahead of us in the new year. It's going to be a big day!!!! We only walked down 6 locks till we could get a clear view of the flight. If you have a look on the Devizes map you'll see the River at the top of the map and we are opposite the Wharf/Theatre and Wadworth's brewery. It's been a lovely sunny day but it's just starting to cloud over....

Dec 14, 2019 - Batteries

4 years, almost to the day, we have replaced batteries on a boat!! On 2nd December 2015, Tony & Mick carted 4 new batteries onto SeaQuill - a lot of heavy work, loading into the tender and then having to get them through a hatch and into place under the starboard bed. The batteries on TranQuill have been getting steadily unhappy and Tony decided they needed replacing. So, our friend, Nick, very kindly offered to help us obtain some lithium ion batteries. We collected them on Thursday and today Tony removed the 5 old batteries and...
