It had been a busy month with visits to family and various appointments. Although the weather wasn’t very good we headed out to Audley End House and Gardens. The house gets its name from Sir Thomas Audley, Henry VIII’s Lord Chancellor who took over the Walden Abbey as his mansion. It was then Thomas Howard, first Earl of Suffolk and James I’s Lord Treasurer who rebuilt the house on a massive scale between 1603 and 1614. Charles II bought Audley End in 1668 as a base to visit Newmarket races. However by it was returned to the Suffolk family...
