Apr 7, 2011 - Sunny England!

Thursday 7th April. My trip up to London was postponed. Instead went out for lunch at the Anchor Pub, followed by a walk along the tow path in sunny 24C weather. A beautiful part of England as one can see from the photos. in one of the pictures you can see a man taking a photo, not of Gill, but of a swan just behind her! Lazy afternoon in the back yard reading in the sun. It’s a tough life.

Apr 6, 2011 - The week to date!

Monday 4th April. Went over to see Auntie Binnie where Gill and Binnie had a gabfest while I sat quietly! Tuesday 5th April. Went out to look for boatyards to collect information about renting a canal narrowboat. It is something we have discussed over the years but never done. So we thought that if we could rent one for a few days it would allow us to assess whether we would like to do it for a week or so. Also applied for my English pension payable to expatriates. As I did work for 5 years in the UK before coming to Canada I should get a...

Apr 3, 2011 - An afternoon at the Fair!

Sunday 3rd April. Well, we never did make it to a castle yesterday. Rather, I went with Julian and we spent an hour or so working on his allotment. In the evening we went to a Japanese restaurant for dinner. Quite nice but one comment is in order. As some of you may know the English are the biggest consumers of sugar per capita in the world. This was evident in the Japanese dishes which were considerably sweeter than the same dishes in Vancouver. Thus morning we went out for a typical English breakfast at the restaurant in the...

Apr 1, 2011 - Not doing much

Friday 1st April. Over the last two we haven’t done much. Gill has spent most of the last two days at the computer with Gilly doing whatever they do on computers. I have been for several walks around the neighbourhood. The local forecast was for heavy rains over the last two days, which meant it was quite dry and pleasant while walking! Currently we are working on which castle to visit over the weekend!

Mar 30, 2011 - Curacao to Heathrow

Tuesday 29th March. Up at 4am to drive to Curacao airport to catch the 7.10 am flight to Miami. Right, get there at 5.30am to find a long line up already for one of the slowest moving lines we have ever seen. Guess it is Island speed. Anyway, to cut a long frustrating story short the plane didn’t leave at 7.10 and it was only when a bunch of us corralled some American Airline employees to demand to know what was going on did we find out they were flying a mechanic in from Aruba to fix a problem!! Eventually left and did land in Miami in...

May 1, 2010 - Getting ready to come home

We are spending the last few days of our trip visiting relatives and friends prior to flying home. Biggest problem is convincing Gill not to bring everything in sight home with us! Otherwise weather is reasonable for this time of year in the UK. Had a lovely pub lunch overlooking a canal lock. It was fun watching the canal boats going past. That's it for this trip!

We are now in Pyrford, Surrey, staying with friends. From now on we will be visiting relatives and other such things. So this will be our last entry unless we go and visit any interesting places in the next week. We have had fun on this trip but are looking forward to getting back to Vancouver.
