Jul 11, 2015 - North Llyn

It was a grey day and on our final day in the area we decided we would head to the northern coast of the Llyn peninsula for a short explore. We went to Porth Dinllaen and explored the headland before driving further along the coast. We gave up after awhile due to heavy rain and returned to Porthmadog.

Jul 4, 2015 - Portmeiron

Today we visited the Italianate private village of Portmeiron just outside Porthmadog. The village was the brainchild of eccentric architect Clough Williams-Ellis and his dream to build an ideal village to enhance rather than blend in with its surroundings. It took him a while to find a suitable location but in the early 1920’s was offered this site four miles from his home. The site had Victorian house which he turned into a hotel the income from which provided Williams –Ellis “Home for Fallen Buildings” Over the following years endangered...

Jun 29, 2015 - Porthmadog

We had moved base to just outside Porthmadog for the next two weeks as there is a lot to explore in this area. Porthmadog was once a major port used for the transportation of slate and was named by William Alexander Madocks after himself and the Welsh Prince Madog. On our first day we had a walk along the coast from Porthmadog with views across the Glaslyn estuary. It was just lovely walking in the warm sunshine and Daisy enjoyed a romp on the beach but she still will not go anywhere near the water.

May 21, 2012 - Porthmadog

It has been a few days since we added anything to the journal sorry. Continuing to have a fabulous time and we have now struck some sunny weather for 3 days in a row. Great! We travelled up to Cardiff from St Ives, a long day of travel broken by a number of stops -the first being Padstow, or Padstein as the locals call it following the take over of a number of businesses by Rick Stein. His name is everywhere and it is a bit much to be honest. We tried to have lunch at his cafe but it was jam packed and we were asked to share a table. Packed...
