Jan 30, 2019 - Up she comes

A public transport day yesterday - the 9.52 train to Lincoln which takes 22 minutes, was cancelled due to a lorry hitting a barrier just up the track. So trains were cancelled for some time and we had to get a bus. We walked up to the bus depot and caught a double decker bus which took 1 hour and 20 minutes, going all around the countryside. There were 3 passengers on it for most of the trip! Anyway, we finally arrived in Lincoln - we sat upstairs at the front so we got a good view. Today was lift out day TranQuill was very gently...

Jan 28, 2019 - The Calm before the Storm???

A beautiful day, blue skies and sunshine all day. Temperature around 6 deg and a definite chill in the air. Our walk today was very nice in the sun and fresh in the shade. The frost hadn't melted in this little patch of the woods at 3.30pm. Anyway I'm just wondering if this is the calm before the snow storm that they keep telling us is about to happen? Tony has just read they are forcasting "life threatening winds". We'll believe it when we see it.

Jan 26, 2019 - Newark Cemetery

I've been wanting to have a walk around the Cemetery for a while and today we got there. It's a very big place with quite a large area of War graves. A lot of Polish airmen are buried there as well as some New Zealanders, Australians and Canadian soldiers. The spring bulbs are all starting to come up, these snowdrops are all around the graves. This beautiful Forsythia tree seems to be flowering early. And the squirrels were jumping around the place....

Jan 25, 2019 - Happy Australia Day

Happy Australia Day everyone. While walking this afternoon I spotted this lovely Robin, a shame it's blurry, but I had to zoom in quite a bit. While we're shivering with cool winter days you're all roasting!! Hope you don't melt! Still no snow here and the last two nights have been quite mild. As long as the wind isn't blowing it's really not cold.

Jan 23, 2019 - Coolish

After a pretty cold night we had a beautiful sunny day. The frost was quite thick on the boat and in some places the ice didn't melt all day. we've walked past this old house many times and never looked up (too busy dodging people walking everywhere), This place is just so full of history. We've also never been into the Church, so we did that today too. Tony went to the bank to withdraw some money while we were out. They gave him £500 in £20 notes!! He asked for £50 notes but they didn't have any - "people don't like them...

Jan 22, 2019 - Out of the marina

This lovely pic of the family just before we departed on Thursday. All smiling and happy for a short time, then it turned to sad faces and tears as we said goodbye. We are back settled on the boat and have just left the marina and moored up in Newark town just near the castle. This cute little bulldozer was sitting there just after the marina. The sun is shining this morning and although it's quite cold outside it's not bad when you're walking in the sunshine....

Jan 19, 2019 - Double decker nightmare!!!

I got a bit excited when we were told we'd be seated upstairs on the double decker plane at the exit door, so lots and lots of room for our last leg from Singapore. BUT that all went pear shaped when we went to find our seats and they were full of "stuff" with a couple kneeling in front of them?? They very quickly moved all the baby bottles and nappies etc. and put them amongst all the other "stuff" they had covering the 3 seats they had with their twins (around 10 months old) and their mother opposite us. The family consisted of mummy,...

Dec 13, 2018 - We're on us 'olidays

Well we are at Roydon Marina Village, staying in a hotel unit on the bank of the River Stort. Our unit is on the left through the gates in this pic. We just went for a walk down to the lock and nearly froze!!! There was frost on the ground in places, so it's been colder here than up in Newark. Outside temp was 5 deg when we arrived here. We walked down to the Marina which is quite large compared to most marinas we have seen. Tomorrow it's down to London and GatwicK Airport for departure tomorrw night....

Dec 10, 2018 - It's beginning to look a bit like Christmas

We're ensconced in the Marina and preparing for our trip. Tony has put the pretty lights up and I've put the little tree out. It's 13 months since we left this marina, and it seems like last week. We've seen so much since we set off and met some lovely people along the way. We pick up a car on Wednesday evening and drive to Harlow on Thursday, then into Gatwick on Friday for departure late on Friday.

Dec 3, 2018 - Damp days

The weather has been damp on and off with a few patches of sunshine in between. So this afternooon during a sunny period we went off for a walk. These pics were taken at 3.30pm today, the sun almost set. So by the time we return from our walk it's just on dusk. Another jigsaw cpmplete - this picture is of the canal in Lincoln.

Nov 30, 2018 - A day trip

Yesterday, on a whim, we decided to go to Lincoln for the day. We got ready and walked across to the station. It was quite windy yesterday so we got blown about a bit. Got tickets and walked around to the correct platform. After waiting for15 minutes past the due arrival time of the train, someone decided to go across to the office and see if there was a problem - there sure was , someone had been knocked down and killed by a train, so there wouldn't be any trains for a couple of hours. So back to the ticket office and join the queue to get...

Nov 26, 2018 - Is it snow?

Coming out of the Hazelford Lock we were met by fluffy snow looking froth. We almost thought it had been snowing here while we were moored up at the top of the lock. It is froth from the water pounding over the weir. We're now back in Newark, biding our time until we head into the Marina on the 10th December in readiness for departure to Aus for a few weeks. The Christmas lights in town aren't very exciting, but the shops are all getting decorated up and selling all sorts of lovely Christmas stuff....
