The weather was again very mixed so we headed to Coleton Fishacre. The house was built as a country home for Rupert D'Oyly Carte and his wife, Lady Dorothy Carte, between 1923 and 1926. Rupert was the son of Richard D’Oyly Carte the impresario and hotelier who founded the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company and built the state-of-the-art Savoy Theatre to host the Gilbert and Sullivan operas and a owned a number of luxury.
