May 18, 2011 - Stratford upon Avon and Warwick Castle

Into Stratford upon Avon again for a bus trip around the usual tourist attractions. Some time at Mary Arden’s farm where Shakespeare’s mother grew up. A brief walk in the town centre and a quick look at the monuments for Shakespeare, a look at the long boats in the canal before heading off to the town of Warwick to visit the castle. Quite a substantial castle, beautifully set up for tourists and an enjoyable afternoon. After tea we visit the local pub again for a drink and a chat with some other Australians staying at the same place as us....

May 17, 2011 - Anne Hathaways Cottage

A slow start today. Make our way into Stratford upon Avon. Firstly a walk along an old railway site (just a walking track now), beside a steeplechase course and then along the Avon River for a couple of hours. In the afternoon we visit Anne Hathaway’s cottage (where Shakespeare’s wife grew up) and then its back to our loft for a home cooked meal and a relaxing evening.

May 16, 2011 - Back to England

Today we leave Wales and make our way towards the western midlands of England. Firstly through the same countryside as yesterday. We stop to take some photographs and speak to a young guy putting on weatherproof jacket and trousers – we ask him if he is going walking but no, he is climbing to the top where he will sit and watch the big jets fly over – as in commercial jets that apparently always fly over these mountains. I suppose it’s a bit like train spotting. Passing through Welshpool (right on the border) we see a sign for a livestock...
